Aug 8, 201214 yr Good Afternoon All, I am registered to Statistics this up coming fall. I want to find out what are the best graphing calculators to use for statistics?
Aug 8, 201214 yr I had a TI-84 and loved all the extra features it had over the TI-83. I, of course, had to get lessons in how to use the stupid thing from my professor, but it was great.
Aug 8, 201214 yr I just finished statistics, & I used the ti-83. There is a couple of tests that you can do in 1 command on the ti-84 which may be more convenient bc there is a lot of info in stats that you have to sort through.. I would say the ti-83 is sufficient, but if you can afford it get a ti-84
Aug 8, 201214 yr I had a T-84 but we BARELY used it (even though it was required), because the teacher believed all students should learn to do it the "old way". I am the biggest math-phobe, but I was okay with Statistics because it was a math that followed the same steps every time. Add these numbers together, divide by this, subtract that, plug numbers into formulas problems like that. The steps are always the same. Main advice... DON"T GET BEHIND. There are many sections where you have to FULLY understand on lesson to get the next one.
Aug 9, 201214 yr Before you buy one, check with the school's library; many have the calculators needed for class. My school did. I signed it out for the semester then returned it when I was done :) No money out of my pocket.
Aug 9, 201214 yr Thanks guys!!:) How was statistics? My teacher would lecture, and then give us some calculator commands to learn--which really help! It was a really time consuming class in my opinion, and I struggled with the probability section, but ended up making an A in the class( I've never made an A in math in my life)! YouTube has a lot of helpful videos for stats..Good luck(-:
Aug 9, 201214 yr I have taken statistics, and I used a calculator that I bought from the dollar tree. I passed the class with a B.
Aug 9, 201214 yr I'm with Sun.. I rented a TI-84 from my school for only $25, instead of paying $150+ for a something I would only use for one semester. Either way, I really liked the TI-84 model. After a couple of explanations of how to use it, it is fairly user friendly.Statistics itself, is not too bad. I am a 3.9 student, with my only B being in College Algebra. I HATE math, and was proud to even receive a B, even though it wrecked my 4.0. With that being said, Statistics is a completely different type of math. It requires more thinking, not so much solving. If your class is like mine was, you will be given terrible looking formulas, but then taught to perform the math easily on your calculator. There is nothing more than basic math involved, it is just being able to pick what parts of the problem fit into what part of the formula, as well as weather to use equations for Populations or samples (you will understand soon enough)! In the end, I received a high A in statistics, so if I can do it, anyone can!
Aug 11, 201214 yr For our statistics class, we used minitab and I don't remember heavy calculator usage as part of the program. I have a TI-83 though that I bought 15 years ago? It still works. I did use it for some things though to check work.
Aug 12, 201214 yr It doesn't matter for stats. You don't need a TI89 until you get to differential equations (3rd year of engineering school for perspective). The more expensive ones have more memory but you won't use more than a tiny fraction of the memory anyway. The more expensive ones have more apps - which might help some people and just unnecessarily complicates things for many people. The more expensive ones have a few games on them - which you probably have on your phone anyway if you are into that. The more expensive ones have a little better constrast on the screenThe 84 Silver has actual fractions with the numbers verticle to each other instead of a number, a slash, the other number.I've bought 6 graphing calculators over the last 5 years or so... pththth.
