Hello everyone. @mg100 Im going to sign the waiver, I believe its given the first day of class. I did get the first hep B shot and documented it on the medical form. @blaquechinadoll I just went through the same thing with filing a appeal with financial aid. Thankfully I was able to get my classes paid for, but I hope the appeal goes through. I probably want here anything about it until after classes start but Im praying for the best.

Hey,Guys I'm not following the fin aid problem I see some people have...I filled out Fafsa and already got approved for fall2012/spring2013...is there anything else I have to do just because I'm going to start nursing school?

If your financial aid is already approved, then you should be good.

I ordered my uniforms already...they just came in the mail like 2 days ago...i had to send lab coat back because it was slightly long for my height...other than that everything fitted just fine

@Blaquechinadoll...how does ur finiancial aid change when u go from pre-nursing to nursing?[h=1][/h]

Hey y'all I'm so excited I can barely breathe. Orientation in 2 days!!!! I can't wait to meet you guys. If any of you would like to make yourself known but don't feel safe doing so in this public fourm I understand. Please email me Sign In

Sorry, hit wrong button vjax@hotmail. I will be discreet and tell you how to recognize me as well. In the subject line put in "from all nurses" so I'll know you're one of my new friends. I look forward to hearing from you.

@polo- if you have more than 53 attempted hours, you no longer qualify for the Pell grant, unless: You change your major to a degree program like Nursing or Sign LaNguage, if you have not obtained a degree by the 53rd attempted hour. If you have had repeat courses or have LS classes, then you must appeal and do an Academic plan, which must be approved by financial aid. Then they will pay for up to 120 attempted hours.

Hey All!

I am so excited about orientation coming up! However, I am not too excited about my most recent email from Financial Aid. I am new to GPC, and my last school did things a bit differently. So, if any of you out there are GPC students, maybe you can tell me a little about how it works.

I receive Pell and loans. I know (from my last school) that if you are not taking a full-time load, your Pell is cut in half...BUT you still receive your full loan amount (as long as you have at least 6 credit hours). So.....I just received this email from FinAid saying that I only have 8 credit hours (which is what NURS1921 is) and I will only receive HALF of ALL of my money (pell & loans). I am so nervous now, because I left my full-time job for nursing school (having calculated my Pell & loans myself for a ball park estimate) and now they are telling me this will be cut in half?!!! This is crazy! Not only did they approve me for LESS than the maximum amount, they are telling me what I did get approved for will be cut in half because of the 8 credit hour issue.

I told them that I have tuition, books, cost of living, childcare, transportation, and everything else involved with school and not working, but they still are not approving me for the max amount. I am so confused! Do any of you know how it works here? Is this lady correct?

Sorry to vent about this when we should be so happy about orientation...I dont mean to be a bummer

ok, cool...thanks

Pell= prorated amount depending on hours.

Student Loan=need to be attending at least half time (6) hours in order to receive. There is a place you can look that up about your student loans. Look around in the financial aid section. You should get the full amount you are approved for as long as you attend at least half time. That's what it says.

Also...regarding the attempted hours cap:

I had to pay this summer for a class I had to have. Then, the nursing department sent over a list of people in the program to administration to change over the majors to nursing. As soon as the major is made "nursing", then financial aid can proceed. I have already emailed them to let them know my file in SIS says nursing. They are proceeding with my file. They did call me after I left a message for them (admin) to let me know when the majors would be turned into nursing. She said it would take about two weeks and that was about two weeks ago...check SIS for those in question under student info. Should say "associates in nursing" or something like that. Don't know why an appeal is necessary though...
