Got kicked out of an RN program don't know what to do

It depends on where you live. I had a friend that was kicked out 2 weeks before graduating, they are going to go to work in a hospital as a CNA and have the hospital pay for tuition to go to school for LPN. Then she will go to another school to get her RN. The problem is: most LPN programs will not except any credits that you have gotten, it will be like starting over. But that is okay, if you really want to be a nurse do it! Some LPN programs are only a year. In my area we have a school for LPN to RN that is only 4 hours a week for I think 16 weeks that will bridge you to RN if you have your LPN. Good luck in whatever you do, but never give up on your dream.

Thank you, I live in NY, and NY is such of tough state to advance and progress, they make everything so difficult.

Our school just upped the grades you need to pass to an 80%, lost alot of people from that and the fact that you need to get a 100% on every med test. It is tough, but there are other ways to get there. Most of the ones that are out of our program went on to get the LPN first and then did other ways (on-line classes, etc.) to bridge to an RN. This might not want to be what you want to here, because you have put so much work into the RN program. But you have to pick yourself up, wipe your hands clean and start anew. The world needs good RN's, please don't give up.

Have you considered an online program? I just saw a post from someone on this site that mentioned Excelsior being an online school she used that would accept people who had completed 50% of their degree elsewhere. Might be worth checking out.

Unless it had changed, you need to have your LPN license first..but I agree it is worth checking out.

To the OP, it really depends on where you are at. Around the upstate NY area, there are several different community colleges that you might be able to talk to advisors and see if you can get in. It is worth a try to talk to the differnt colleges in your area and see what options are available.

Unfortunately with LPN school, most programs are clock programs (you earn hours) and not college credit - at least in this area. You would have to start from ground zero.

Most schools either have or are contemplating having 100% pass on medication exams. It really matters that you give medications correctly 100% of the time!! Remember, you will have lives in your hands and their loved ones are counting on you to take care of them!

The schools are not trying to make it hard, but are working to produce safe nurses. I want a nurse from a really hard school to take care of me!

When you are excused from a program, look at options and go forward. Also, examine what happened so you can learn from this experience.

No I don't think that this is strange at all. My school had a 100% to pass on all their med tests, and we had one at the beginning of each class, each semester. Granted we were given 3 chances at them...I think we may have actually lost someone b/c she couldn't pass after all the remediation required, and re-taking the test.

This is what makes me so sad about nursing college. Why kick out the students when they are so close to graduatiing? That was very cold and I hope and pray that you get into another program. Go to a private school next time, they put out more effort to teach the students well. This is a waste of money and time. I will be praying for you.

Well, not really. I mean, you really do need to know the calculations. They do give you three chances. No 100% after 3X, you are out of there. The thing that ticked everyone off is the fact that they changed every thing while we were 1/2 way done with the program. We think that the new grading system should have started off with the new students and we should have been grandfathered in with the old system.

A girl got kicked out of our program for not passing I&O..."A" student, just had anxiety for that one skill. Sad.

Why not do the LPN program, or talk to the school ask them if they can help you. Thats really rough, I cant even imagine what youre feeling right now. Im sorry.
