got accepted !! ...now what??

Published

I just got a letter that I was accepted to Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County, to start Sept 2005. I am very excited, but sooooo scared too. I have a major issue of how I am going to pay for it.

How are the moms/dads with families out there doing it? I am seriously open for any suggestions. I am unfortunately one of those people who make too much to qualify for federal financial aid, like a Pell grant, but not enough to be able to afford it myself. I have 3 little ones ages 10, 5 and 2. DH works, but only average salary and I am a SAHM, but do work at home doing medical transcription, not really much income there, but helps with the bills.

So, my excitement is squashed a bit. I don't know if I will/should cough up the $200 to hold my seat in the program, since I have no CLUE, how I will pay for the 6 semesters, which adds to around $18,000 !!! Yikes...

I am sooo bummed.

hiya kim. i know exactly what you're going through! when i was accepted into nursing school, my husband asked how the heck we were going to pay for it. i thought that we made too much money for a pell grant or for a federal loan but i still gave it a shot. i'm happy that i did! my advise is simply meet with the financial aid advisor at your school. you may be surprised at what you do qualify for. i was! good luck!

Same situation here -- school financial aid office has been a great help.

Student loans are quite reasonable now...If I accepted the full package, I would not have to pay any out of pocket, at this point...just after school:coollook: . I'm hoping, then, for a situation w/ loan reimbursement.

(Worse case, 2nd mortage on house.)

Again, fin. aid office should be able to help.

Talk to your financial aid officer. There are tons of scholarships out there. They should be able to help you a great deal. Try this website www.fastweb.com. They deal with scholarships. Good Luck.

my hospital gives full schlorships to its employees who want to be nurses i know its hard to work full time and raise three young children and go to school full time but it can be done i did it single with two young children. good luck. call the human resource department see what they are willing to do for you.

Hey Shele,

Good to hear from you. Not sure what you mean by "math section". You are scaring me now. Not sure of what math I need to take. Is this a pre-req? I already have my BS in Business, so the only classes I needed to take were AP I and II, Micro and Nurtrition.....as far as any math classes, the counselor at Helene Fuld didn't say that I needed to take anything else.

So basically I will only be taking the core Nursing courses. Is there a specific name for this course? or are you talking about the NET?? If it's the NET, then I only brushed up on my percentages and algebra. It's a insultingly easy entrance exam.

Keep me posted. Hope to talk to you soon....Oh, by the way, are you going into the evening program??

Debra,

I meant the NET. LOL, sorry about worrying you. It's funny b/c I too have a Bachelor's in Business. How old are you if you don't mind me asking. I'll be 34 in 1 week!

Are you good in math? I'm soooo dumb when it comes to math, but if it's in a real world situation, ie % for tips and shopping, I'm just fine. I'm just really scared about the Math section on the NET. Hey, were you allowed to use a calculator??? Thanks for responding to my post:)

Debra,

I will be going in the day as long as my babysitter can do those hours. If not, I'll be hiring a nanny. I have a 3yo and a 13mo. Should make studying interesting;)
