GN vs. new RN

I graduated this past May from a BSN program and I just passed NCLEX last week and I am now looking for a job in the Dallas area. From what I understand, regular RN positions require a certain amount of experience to qualify so that leaves me with having to wait for GN positions to open up.

First, does anyone know which hospitals will have GN internships that start in Aug/Sept in the Dallas area and when I can apply for them?

or does anyone know of any hospitals that will hire a new RN without an internship or experience?

I'm also curious to know if applying as an RN vs. a GN would give me a leg up in getting a job or if I would even get more negotiating power for a higher hourly wage?

If anyone has any advice, that would be great.

Thanks!!!

Just search the hospitals websites, most have listings for RN & GN, we hire GN's throughout the year.

Any reason you didn't apply while in school?

Good luck in your job search.

a new RN doing an internship should get paid the same as the GNs. if the GNs don't pass the NCLEX, they are usually out of the internship or have to work as techs.

Some hospitals post RN positions for any RN across the board, including ones who are brand new out of nursing school, some have specific GN positions posted, and some have one GN application for all GNs nonspecific to a certain position. All hospitals will hire GNs or new RNs without experience, and most will put you through an internship or residency before you're out there on your own anyway. So just call and talk to the nurse recruiters for the hospitals you're interested in and they'll tell you how they do it. You probably cannot negotiate on hourly pay though... I worked as an OBGYN office nurse for 6 months after nursing school so I technically had "experience" when I got hired at my current hospital unit, but since I did not have a year of hospital experience, I was required to go through their RN residency program and we all started at the same base pay. Most hospitals do it that way.

Good luck! Dallas has some great hospitals.

Go to jobster.com and put in gn and texas. There are several ads for internships starting in September at Texas Health Resources. Texas Health Resources have several hospitals throughout DFW area.
