I am an American and I have a boyfirend who is German. I am looking into getting an LPN position somewhere in Germany. (probably on an military base-Damstadt???) I speak only a little German and I will learn the langauge. Can anyone help me?

Is is possble for me to get a job? Do I need a work Visa if i am on an American base working as a civilian?

not sure what the requirements are for US base but for working in local hospitals I would image you would have to be RN trained and work visa

Germany - not an easy one. Their unemployment is phenomenal and if you're considering something else besides nursing - unskilled labour of any kind - I'll say you're in a rather hopeless situation. Sorry.

US bases require the RN, otherwise they use military corpsmen.

For any other positions in nursing there, you will need to speak fluent German, and actually pass the language exams. And be qualified to write their RN exam........................as well as write it in German, especially to get a visa to work there in the nursing field.

You may be able to find some other type of work, but as a nurse, it requires the RN after your name.

I'm planning on getting my BSN (hopefully starting a 2nd degree program in the fall) and would also like to move to germany. I'm originally from there and fluent in the language and all of that. I moved to the US about 11 yrs ago when I was 12. Do you know where I'd need to go to find out exactly which steps i'd need to take to work there as a nurse? I don't want to ruin my chances of getting a job if i move back, and I'd just like to know what I've got to look forward to...also looking into england, ireland and austria, since the economy in germany isn't that great...do you know where i'd have to look for these countries as well? any ideas? (I do have german citizenship so I don't need to worry about that one!) I'd like to go as far as the NP eventually...and I don't know how that would translate over there...or I'm also toying with the ideas of Med-school and don't know how my previous school/work experience would play in to that...say, if I decide to go to school for that over there...hope to hear back!!!

go to the military websites. they have a list of positions available and where the job is located.

I don't know anything about working in Germany for Germans, but I do see jobs for nurses on US bases in Germany listed on USAjobs. I suggest a google search for USAjobs.
