Gardisil

Does anyone know whether or not a pregnancy test has to be given before the administration of Gardisil? I was told today that this should happen, and the patients should be taught not to get pregnant for a year. immunize.org states that studies do not show a danger, but pregnant women should not get the vaccination because there is not enough studies to state this for sure. Now, I am confused...:angryfire:madface: and angry...my drug book says nothing about any of the vaccinations and I guess our computer system is not updated because I don't see it there. Thanks...

From the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/preg-guide.htm :

  • The vaccine has not been causally associated with adverse outcomes of pregnancy or adverse events to the developing fetus. However, data on vaccination during pregnancy are limited. Until additional information is available, initiation of the vaccine series should be delayed until after completion of the pregnancy. If a woman is found to be pregnant after initiating the vaccination series, the remainder of the 3-dose regimen should be delayed until after completion of the pregnancy. If a vaccine dose has been administered during pregnancy, no intervention is needed. 4
  • A vaccine in pregnancy registry has been established; patients and healthcare providers should report any exposure to . . . HPV vaccine during pregnancy (telephone: 800-986-8999). "

c0ntagion...three words: I Love You. :heartbeat:redbeathe Thanks!

My daughter had the series recently & there was no mention of not getting pregnant for a year afterwards and they did not do a pregnancy test on her.

That is funny - I just got finished (literally) with writing a paper about HPV.

I didn't let my daughter get the vaccine because there is not enough information about the risks yet. It is too new.

And I never read about the pregnancy information.

Thanks for that.

I also did not choose to get the vaccine because I don't know enough about it to want to get it. My doctor has never told me about any pregnancy risks either

Steph, I'm with you on that. And seeing more things like this don't give me warm feelings about the vaccine.

Oh wow, that article is scary! :o I'm glad that its not mandatory for girls here

It seems like it is 10 to 15 years before you see many stories in the news about case studies piling up showing the good, bad or ugly about any new vaccine or drug therapy.

If it were me....err on the side of caution. It wouldn't kill anyone.

the article is anecdotal.....

There are other stories about it. I didn't link them all on the other post because I figured people would do a search on the site. But just in case people didn't, here's more (and there are more to be found if one looks for it):

And it's not just going to be for girls if they get their way:

http://holyhormones.com/men/wall-street-journal-examines-potential-use-of-gardasil-among-young-men/

From the reading I did on the vaccine when it first came out, I didn't get the impression that they did do a very good job of testing it before subjecting an entire generation of young women to it. They have no clue what the long term dangers are of it. And now they want to hit young men as well? As a mother of 2 girls, I can tell you that we won't be getting it anytime soon...if ever.

I am just glad that I don't have daughters yet, and wouldn't want my daughter (or son) to get it anyway.

The only vaccines I've ever given that we did pregnancy testing before was MMR and varicella (the live vaccines, in other words).
