Frustration

First of all thanks to all you who made suggestions about were I should live and places I should stay away from.

I've hit a wall and am pretty frustrated. First of all It's next to impossible to talk to a live person at these human resourse departments. And then with the current nursing shortages to be told that they don't have any positions. One hospital even told me that they had filled all their openings with new grads. I've been doing this for almost 30 years now. Is it normal for the specialty areas like the ER to not have any openings. or is it just a bad time of year to be looking for a job?

Who told you they didn't have any openings in ER? They're lying. Every single hospital in this city has openings in ER, especially for experienced nurses. Period. And even if by some fluke, they are all hired up this week, give it a couple of weeks and there will be some openings. Have you considered prn or agency at the facility of your choice until a staff position opens up?

That's so wierd. I work at Emory and I know Emory and Crawford Long both have openings in the ER. Please check the website at emoryhealthcare.org and click on search careers.

I'm an ER nurse. According to human resourses there is no openings in the ER. Has me confused. Not that it sounds like I want to work there anyway.

I interviewed at Peidmont and Northside. I'm hoping. I've got a line on a 13 week travel assignment in marrieta also. We'll see what happens.

If your interested in Grady, give the nurse recruiter a call. I am a new grad and they hired everyone that went for a job (in the ER). I was basically hired before the interview. PM me if you want her name and number.

Try Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

did you check the atlanta va hospital? they often have ed openings too, plus they have nice benefits. i was one of the valor nurse externs from summer of 2005.

Hmmm Gainsville is just a bit far to commute. :)

I work in Piedmont Er and Im sure that there are several openings right now. So I think you will hear something soon.

Good Luck.

I drive an hour to an hour and 10 minutes to work in Gainesville, depending on what the traffic is like.;)

NGMC is the #1 Cardiac Hospital in the state-check their website.

I got an email from a hospital outside of Atlanta. Get this, they are expecting their ER census to increase so they are looking to hire more nurses, to stay ahead of the curve. It's nice to see at least some hospitals and administrators have a clue. This might be a place I actually want to work. Plus it's only 14 miles from the apartment we found.

I've got an appartment, Have all the arrangements for phone, cable, internet and all that kind of stuff done. I"m not as freaked about moving without having a job, I'm sure something will come up.

It still amazes me how poorly the HR departments at these hospitals, handle people applying for jobs. One of the hosptitals actually told me they get hundreds of applications and it takes awhile to sort through them. It's now been 3 weeks since they got my application and I've still not heard from them.

Thanks for all who have responded. This is the 1st time in almost 30 years that I've not walked into a place and started working.
