CraigB If your interested in Grady, give the nurse recruiter a call. I am a new grad and they hired everyone that went for a job (in the ER). I was basically hired before the interview. PM me if you want her name and number.

CraigB, Don't know if your interested, but have you tried Grady? They definately need help.

I just graduated GPC and during the semester I attended a meeting with current students and a lady from the state board. A student suggested that maybe GPC was understaffed and that was the reason for all of the disorganization, etc. The lady told us that for the amount of students GPC had they were actually overstaffed!! So, they could definately get rid of some of the bad teachers and only keep the good ones.

Mercer campus is around Clairmont, spaghetti junction, North Druid area but the nursing school is locatied on boulevard near Atlanta Medical. The Buckhead, VA highland area would be your best bet. Not south Fulton or downtown. Once again, I would check out Promove, they have a huge map on the wall to help out.

Check out Promove. It's a free apartment locator service. They work off the referral fees from the apartments. You could go there or either call them. I'm sure you could just search Promove and find some info. Good Luck!

Graduating from nursing school this week and going to start a job in a very busy level 1 trauma center (>100,000 pt/yr). Just got a new Palm Pilot and was wondering what software you all think I should get? There are so many to choose from. I need help. Thanks

There is one good thing about the program, IF you actually make it through you know that you have pretty much went through the toughest struggle of your life and anything a hospital or other nurses (bad ones) can throw at you, you will be able to take it b/c you have been dealing with disorganization, lack of time management, lack of good leadership......, could go on but I won't. So, at this point I'm glad I went there, but if I had to do it again, NO WAY!!

Tabymac, I'm in Atlanta and it's Grady. It's a level I trauma that saw about 170,000 pts last year and the nurse manager told me they see at least 350 a day. I took a tour today and had the interview. The nurse giving me the tour was introducing me as an RN that was coming on board so I guess they'll offer me the job. Said she'd call me tomorrow. It looks like the pt load is about 8:1. But there seems to be alot of help. Don't know though cause I'm going to be new to the ER. I am just going to do my two years b/c I want to travel and after I make it two years at Grady I'll be able to go anywhere. What do you experienced nursed think of this. The orientation is at least 6 months with classroom and clinicals and after one year you will be able to get trauma certification. ACLS and PALS is included in the first 6 months I think. The entrance exam is the easiest test of all. Nursing test are extremely difficult so in order to pass nursing school you will have to learn test taking skills. These are skills that can be learned. You don't have to be a natural at it, but you will absolutely have to learn how to take test well to survive. ~~

GA Perimeter has become a little easier in the last 2 semesters. I think they got some pressure from the state b/c of their retention rate. There are (as of now) 63 people graduating in May. Biggest class in years!! So, it might not be as bad as it was before.
