Freezer Meals

I thought it would be nice to start a thread on some meals that can be frozen and to get some new ideas. I really need to this because with 4 kids, it's hard to say get whatever you can find! Like today, I had to run to school this morning to have my TB read. Then by the time I got home, I had no time to cook. So I took some chili that I had frozen and called it dinner! It really helped because I had to go back to school this evening for Micro.

Some things I plan to make are cookies, muffins (blueberry, banana, chocolate chip) and breads. Such as banana, zucchini, and pumpkin. This kids will help so that will be fun for them.

I also plan to make fry huge batches of hamburger and then place them in gallon bags by the pound. I will season some for things like spaghetti and season the rest with taco seasoning.

I also plan to do the same for chicken. Place chicken breast in a crock pot and then shred it once it's all done.

What are some other ideas?

Lasagna freezes well, so do soups. Your crock pot can be your new best friend in NS!

meatloaf. My mom still makes it for me and freezes it and sends it to me.

Most anything with a sauce/broth freezes fairly well from my experience.

I never got into the whole cooking thing. My husband isn't impressed but he loves to eat; so he does the cooking 99% of the time. I know how to cook and can cook good. I just don't like to do it. He used to have to work out of town for months and thankfully my teen son likes to cook. lol

Something that my kids love though that I got from this board that is super easy is meatball subs.

Make double batches of every meal. I depend on leftovers! I made pasta every week, which I love, but I did get a little tired of it. haha

1 lb pasta + 2 cans spaghetti sauce + 1 lb meat

1 lb pasta + 1 large can cream of mushroom + 1 lb meat + 1 cup parmesean = sorta alfredo

4 cups cooked rice + 1 lb meat + 1 cup salsa + 1 can kidney/navy beans + BBQ sauce = Fiesta pasta

1 box cubbisons stuffing... recipe for Chicken Lickin casserole. Try it out.

Split pea soup. :)

Chicken noodle. :)

Massive batch of mashed potatoes + roast + salad.

Those are the main meals I depend on.

make batches of spaghetti sauce and/or chili and freeze in quart containers, lasagna, make hamburg patties in advance and freeze them that way with wax paper between them and then you can defrost and grill/fry/bake...

Pretty much any cooked protein. We store them in quart canning jars (good size for two and it leaves some leftovers.)

It's not freezer related, but my wife has learned to time crock-pot meals that she throws in before we leave the house for the day and has a hot dinner ready for when we get home. This has been our solution for the inevitable getting home, being tired, and not feeling as though there is time to cook a real meal.

Chickpea salads... with tomato, bell pepper, porificely, chopped garlic and onion, and cucumber... i think it would freeze good... and its healthier than pasta and beef lol
