let us know what you did to get accepted

how were your grades? what was your GPA? what test did you take and how did you do?

I was accepted to Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing in Connecticut. :balloons: We took the TEAS test, not sure what my numerical score was...but I know that the test said I scored in the top 3% of the nation. I applied with a 4.0 GPA. All I really did to get in was study, study, and then study some more. I've changed majors a *couple* :uhoh3: of times, but thankfully I kept my GPA high. I think that's what got me in, I also wrote them a letter in addition to the admission requirements that explained a little about me and why I want to get into nursing. Melanie

I applied early with a 4.0 GPA. I took the "Compass", test and did well enough to get accepted on my first try.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are specific things to do. I read about folks on this forum with 3.77 or higher or a 4.0 GPA getting wait listed or denied. Then I'll read other threads indicating people with a lower GPA getting accepted into programs. I just don't get it!! Really!! Same idea with NET scores - different schools seem to have different requirements of what is the lowest acceptable score.

I'm beginning to think it's more dependent on where you are going to school / the part of the US and how much competition there is for the specific school you are applying to.

I really wish there was a "magic answer" but the only conclusion I can draw is to study, work hard, be persistant and hope you live someplace where there is a plethora of schools and competition is less fierce. :)

Got accepted at Montgomery College for Fall 06'!!!!! I applied with a 4.0; took the HESI exam (reading comp. and math..i think my score was a 93.6 something); I also completed all of the academic classes (31 credits for the ADN) because people don't get into the colleges i applied to without doing so.....3 colleges but in the same district so they have the same requirements. They have a point system that they use to rank the applicants (12 pts being the max..mine was 11.74) and every hundredth of a decimal pt. matters! 30 seats and 850+ applicants.....extremely competitive! I agree with rn2be...it depends on the school and the area. Good luck!

I think in my area (Trenton, NJ), the timing of when you submit your application is very important. They recommend submittng you app. the fall before you want to start. I had to take the NET test and my school's passing rate is 55% or higher in each section. I got 90's in each. After you pass hte test, your application goes to the board of directors. My school will not accept anyone below a 3.0 GPA, and you can not retake the net test. I have 3.76 GPA. It is a first come first serve basis best grades basis, so the people with the best grades who applied first are definitly in after being approved by the board of directors!!! Also, you can not start the program unless you will done with all of your pre recs before the fall.

I start this fall and cant wait. IM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lol2: :lol2:

Yes, different schools have different admission/requirements to get accepted in the Nursing program---sometimes it gets so confusing...they require a higher than the others percentile score for Verbal Ability and Composite percentile in the Pre-NLN Admission test. ( this is given only every 6 mos twice a year). Of course, GPA matters and submission of all requirements on time before the deadline for application. Completion of all these and satisfying all the req. plus ranking higher than the other applicants gets you accepted here in Illinois. If you didn't satisfy one of their criterias, you need to attend a mandatory info meeting, and re-apply, then wait for the next fall. It's really a LIMITED ENROLLMENT NURSING PROGRAM!

I was accepted into the University of Arizona's accelerated BSN program (starts this June). I had a 3.6 GPA. I know for a fact that my GPA was probably one of the lowest accepted. Over 200 people applied for 64 spots. About half the applicants were interviewed by a panel of faculty members and local hospital recruiters. This was the first year they've done interviews, and I heard it was because in the past, they've only looked at GPA for determining who was accepted, and that as a result, ended up with students who were book smart but lacked communication and people skills. They also considered essays that we had to submit. It's nice to know that the school is now looking beyond the numbers when considering applicants, because numbers don't always tell the whole story (I would have had a 3.8 pre-req GPA if I hadn't missed an A in A&P by one point!)

i started this term in an RN program in Washington state.

GPA= 3.8+

science GPA= 3.7

no testing required, just GPA based.

Thanks everyone for sharing that info. but after viewing this web site I have become discourage because I see you guys are doing very well(keep up the good work). Instead of me being that "A" student, I am a "B" student and we do have less students who are trying to get into our philadelphia schools, for example, the school I am waiting for has 25 seats with 100 applicants which they prefer you have all pre-reqs done, essay, 2 letters of recommendation, resume and the TEAS test which they have no certain criteria for. So I was just wondering how much of a chance I had, but I see that the harder you work, the better your chances are.

Thanks again all!

It really depends on the school.

My school looks first at your science GPA, mine was a 3.8 Then they look at your overall GPA, mine was a 3.6 and then your letters of recomendation, and TEAS test score (pretty easy test).

i am in my third quarter of nursing school. but i got in with a 3.67 in my pre-req's, 98th percentile on TEAS. i also had volunteer experience and some good letters of recommendation. i know there were at least 20 people with a lower gpa than myself that got in. it really depends on where you are applying, the strength of the group applying and i think your essay ends up being a deciding factor to get in or get an interview.

good luck
