First job offer

I was offered a position on friday as an LPN at a ped office for $14.00/hr, verbally. They have yet to send me the offer to sign. Am I still able to negotiate the wage that was offered? The amount they have offered me is substantially lower than I should be accepting, especially because it is part time(16 hours a week) with no benefits, and a CNA would make close to the same amount. This is my first job offer too. How do I approach this if its appropriate? Advice?

Welcome to AN!

Thread moved for best response.

Doctor offices pay much less than facilities. I think it is a fair offer for a new grad

As a new graduate you really do not have room to negotiate wages at this time. Best wishes on your new journey.

If you want more money, seek employment somewhere other than a doctors' office or clinic. In general, they pay lower due to the favorable hours and tendency to be off on weekends and holidays.

As a new grad with no experience you have no bargaining chips on which you can negotiate a higher pay rate. If you ask for $15 or $16 hourly, the office manager can simply abandon your application and hire someone else who will eagerly accept the $14 wage.

Certainly..the work contract has been offered, not yet accepted. Now is the time to bargain up.

All they can say is no.

Best of luck....let us know how it turned out.
