Finished my First Term!

Hello, I'm looking into going to Gurnick in October and wanted to see how things were going for you? I've read some of your post and feel positive about your experience. One thing that scares me is the HESI Test. Do the school prepare you for this test? How many times do you get to pass it? Do you know anyone who has actually took the test? Overall it seems like you like the school. How are the clinical's sites? Another important question is how was the test to test out of the pre reqs course? Thanks

5 weeks? How long is your program? We have 3 semesters, not including Pharmacology. I started in January and do not finish my first semester for 3 more weeks.

My program is 14 months so just a little over three semesters. We have 2 classes a "term" (5 weeks) and around 4 terms a semester. Thats how all the nursing programs (LPN and RN) arrange their classes in my area.

Thank you for the congrats everyone! :-) I spend around 2 hours a day studying and doing homework. It looks like I will most likely be increasing that time with my next classes tho, it looks like a lot of projects and a lot of information on the tests!

As far as the HESI goes, you have a six week review for the test...the class that just graduated that went to the review, passed the HESI with flying colors...the 9 people that did not go to the review did not pass the HESI and have to pay $50 to retake the exam. You have three chances to pass the HESI, but have to pay if you fail it the first time. I have a friend who just took the HESI and scored an 879. She needed an 850 to pass. She told me that if you go to the review and do the online HW every night that is assigned along with reading and studying the rationales for the answers you got wrong, you will pass the HESI.

The challenge exam to get out of the prereq's was intense! But if you buy the book (Memmler's Anatomy & Physiology in Health and Disease 11th edition by Barabra Cohn), and study it from front to back, you will pass the exam. I was also given a study guide for the exam so I just followed that as I read the book and studyed. I ended up auditing the class because they were teaching Drug Dose Calculations as well as A&P and so glad I did. I think that is why I did so well this last module.

I have not started at the Clinical site yet, but we go to LTC's and from what I am told, your first module that you start at the site, it is all CNA work. When you get into Module 3, that is when you begin to pass meds and do producedures.

What campus are you going to be starting at? I am at the Concord Campus in the evenings...I really like it there and so far so good. The instructors are really nice and you really get a quality education in my OP.
