Hi everyone! like title says, i'm in trouble.

I cannot keep up my FT job so i'm planning to get a per-diem job so I can study and do everything nursing school requires. but my wife does not sees it that way :(

My sister in law is a nurse and she told me to get a student loan, Nusing school is too hard to do both.

One of my co-workers, her daughter is in the nursing program that I will be and she told me to get the per-diem one, other wise I'm not going to make it...

I've been researching for student loans and I can't find the right one, the one I filled in the application ask me about financial aid, which I have, and it was denied....

Also I have to mention, I have two daughters a mortgage, two cars and all the bills that this comes with... so... any help with pointers or advice on loans is more than welcome!!!

I'm surprised you haven't been able to get financial aid. I'm starting nursing school next week and will have to pay for all my classes out of pocket (my school only gave me less thank 1k for school). Hang in there!!!! Ask around in your school, and look online for scholarships. Apply for the fafsa and if you need a loan, do it!!! It will be worth it.

I know several people in my cohort that work full time jobs, maintain their grades, as well as their homes and families. It is possible, although it requires a lot of sacrifice. If you have filled out the FAFSA that is the first place to start, then I would contact your financial aid department, they will be able to better assist you. Just because you were denied grant money, does not mean you will be denied loan money. Also they should be able to point you in the direction of scholarships! I have one friend who has managed to get enough scholarship money that she barely has to work, all it took was the effort it takes to apply. Then there are other programs out there, I know many states have WIA through the unemployment office, and they will aid in paying for your schooling as well.

First, you can work full-time, take care of housing stuff, dependents, etc. and successfully complete nursing school full-time. I graduate in 13 weeks and this was my reality the entire time and will continue to be until the day I am pinned. Is it easy? No. Do I get sleep every night? No. Do I get days off? Absolutely not, but it was a sacrifice I was more than willing to make.

I also get no financial aid due to income. If you can get it, get it. It is one less bill to worry about at this time, but you will have it in the future. Fill out the FAFSA and see what they offer you. You may get a few grants that do not have to be paid back. You can also look into scholarships. There are thousands of them all over the web, many geared toward those pursuing healthcare. You can also choose to do school part-time so the tuition is less per semester and you have more time to work, study, etc.

Grants. How in the world are you not getting grants? Even I got a grant.

Look into Perkins loans. They're meant to fill gaps and are 'paid back', in many cases, by simply working as an RN. I got one of them as well.

I look at it this way: if you have it in you, you can do it. I'd just explain you're going to be somewhat unavailable sometimes - but it's temporary. It's a means to an end.

Plenty of others have been in your position. You can do this and really, you've come too far not to now. Keep your chin up - you'll get there.

Cfnc fels loans are given to nursing students and you don't have to fill out a fasfa. You are not required to pay the loan back if you work in the state you received the loan. So if you received the loan for 2 years then you will have to work in that state for 2 years. Hope that helps

I'm curious to see how it turns out for me. I'm so nervous about working part time 7p-7:30a 2 nights a week while doing the nursing program full time. Everyone loves to tell horror stories how no one can work and do the nursing program :( I have no choice, I have 5 kids 9, 8, 7, 3 1/2, and 1 1/2. Their dad is very supportive and he said he will do all the cooking, cleaning, and all stuff for the kids. I guess its the fear of the unknown that scares me the most. I am a PCT, so the work I know I love but knowing if I can do the program while working. I get pell grants, plus I got accepted for 2 scholarships (but I can't get the money until 10 days into the program). I need the money before classes start to get the supplies. Good luck we can do this. I start my ADN program 9/3/13.

I'm in the same boat, it's the unknown what is killing me... Us I have to say....

And I know we can do it! We are not the first or the last in this position!

The loan you are referring to is not nationwide. AFAIK, It's only available in NC.

Gonzalal, you definitely needs to fill out a FAFSA if you haven't already done so. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Avoid other sites with the word FAFSA in them. This is the free government site

This is true! Is only for NC.

I have already filled FAFSA but I only got the necessary to cover my first nursing class, since my wife and I work full time and again the problem is that the nursing counselor, and a bunch of different nurses recommend me to get a periderm job or to focus only to school and my current FT employer does not want to help me with the hours that I would be at school...

Thanks for your answers and tips! There is only one thing for sure! Nothing will stop me to become an RN!
