Finally in the OR!

I accepted a position in the OR today and I am so excited! Bedside nursing was not my cup of tea. I'm so unbelievably excited for the things to come :)

Congrats!! Haven't started a nursing program as yet but when I graduate, OR nursing is my desired specialty!!

How much exp did you have? I feel like I'm never going to get into the OR. :(

Congrats!! I remember the excitement I had when I finally got into the OR. Pay attention during all cases, and keep a book of what you have seen and done. It will help you remember when you do that case again.

Hey! How's the OR going for you? I'm looking to begin the Periop course offered at DCCC in Sept but praying for a spot in the Gateway to OR at HUP! I hope all is well. Keep us posted!!

CONGRATS!:)

Since this post is from last year, I'd love to hear your perspective of OR thus far...

I have an interview for a position in the OR tomorrow and I'm really nervous:( I'd love your insight as far as the interview process (What did they ask? What are they looking for in a candidate? How to ace the interview?) as well as your experience as a scrub nurse so far.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Wavey. Congrats on the interview! Try glassdoor for the hospital you're interviewing with. Maybe you will find something there. What hospital is the interview with?

Hello,

The hospital is University of Miami hospital. Yes, I've utilized Glassdoor before, thank you for your suggestion. Have you had any interviews for an OR position? Have you accepted an OR position? If so, what are they looking for in an OR nurse candidate?

Thanks:)

Hey! No I'm not in a hospital but I'm taking. Periop 101 at the local community college. How's the new job going??!!!

Hey all! I accepted the position as Peri-op nurse and I am going through the training program (101) at the hospital for the next 6 months! I am so excited but I'm also terrified! That's so weird, right?! What if I'm not good at it? I signed a contract that says, I basically have to be good at it or I owe them my first born! It's such a different world and I don't know ANYTHING!

I'm doing my scrub rotation now and I feel like I suck!!! I want to just circulate at this point but I know I need to learn this skill.. So many rules and so much pressure! I'm feeling defeated

I am learning how to scrub right now too and I TOTALLY feel your pain! I feel so dumb. I can barely figure out how to hand instruments the correct way. I wish I could practice in a simulation environment because there is so much pressure to perform well during real surgeries. I also don't want to slow everyone down.

Anyway... I'm only 2 weeks in so I'm sure it will get easier with time. We just have to keep on learning and trying our best!
