FAILED NCLEX-RN on 4th try

Published

Hi everyone, I took my nclex-rn exam last feb. 26, stopped at 265. Just got the results from the mail today and it reads FAILED. My results are: 1 above passing, 5 near passing and 2 below passing. Feel so week just stare at the wall my mind completely empty, this is my 4th already. Right now i am confused. I dont know where to start. Can you suggest a study plan? i have saunders 4th ed, la charity and exam cram. when do i need to retake it? your sugestions/advice are soo welcome..thank you

I would start with the two areas where you were weak. I would also try to find a new resource, preferably something where you have your weak areas separated out if you can find something that way. If you have the money, I would suggest one of the review programs, Hurst or Kaplan, or another. Then, the rest of it is the same as before, as many questions as possible and study the rationales. Pay particular attention to your weak areas. Give yourself a couple of days, but only a couple, then get started. Good luck.

Sorry to hear you have failed.

I would suggest you take a short break from studying and then start over again. Forget about your results and start from scratch. Regarding retake well that depends on your state as some will let you resit after 45 days and others it is 90. I wouldn't rush to resit though

Hang in there. I'm about to graduate RN in May and am scared witless. One of our clinical instructors recommeded the NCLEX 4000 CD. Don't know if that will make a diffference or not; it's just more questions. If your nursing school does the HESI thing, maybe you could ask to pay for a few more HESI exams. Our instructor has recommened taking them as many times as possible to get comfortable sitting for boards. Either that, or as the previous post mentioned, do the Kaplan or Pearson or whatever review. Also, remember that tests are so subjective; I hate them. They are no measure of your intelligence or your ability to be a good nurse; just whether you can read the questions correctly. Some people just suck at test taking, me being one of them.

Sounds like you need a hug..believe me, no one will kick you harder than you are kicking yourself right now. Good Luck

I am so sorry to hear this. I took nclex on Feb 23 and failed for the 3rd time. I know how hard it is to fail. I am trying to hang in there. I just (today) re-registered for Kaplan and NCSBN online. I am also going to use Saunders Q&A, nclex 4000, and my old Hurst review book. I am going to follow Kaplan program starting with my weak areas and moving on.

If you want we could do some online studying together. We need to keep at this I know we can do it! Let me know if you want to try some type of studying. Even if its just emailing questions and rationals.

We can also keep in touch and keep each other motivated and support one another. Please remember you are not alone. We are not alone.

Thank you Callioter3, Silverdragon102 and SoonerLPN for your suggestions. I really needed that. With regards to the review program..hmm kinda pricey but do you think its worth it? which is better online review or live class?..about answering questions, I did 6,000 questions with rationales I guess that is not enough for me..You are right Silverdragon102, I really need a break cause right now I dont have the strenght to open a book and start the review again, I know only a couple of days only.. Thanks again

It's definetly worth it. Think of the money you've already spent on the tests. I took Kaplan review class and have online access. It really helps you read the questions better and determine the correct answer. When I use the decision tree, even if I don't know have a clue of what the right answer could be, I often get the question right. I will be taking my exam in a couple of weeks but my classmates who took the course and and did nclex have passed.

Sorry to hear you were not successful in this try.

Here is a post that gives great advice - please see below:

sorry to hear that you fail too foxygirl, I know this is really hard to deal with and you need to give your 100% to be able to pass. right now my mind is still empty, thank you for your encouragement, that is a good plan I will let you know.

Thank you Canggih1. Goodluck!!! thank to you to little mina..

Never give up. I failed previously and am anxiously awaiting my results... but everyone I told about failing the first test all said "NEVER GIVE UP." I rolled my eyes cause it was so repetitive but then realized, they're right. I didn't spend all that time in nursing school for nothing. Or all that time studying for nothing. Please don't give up, for yourself!

I'm really sorry to hear that - hey at least you keep going and doesn't give up! I would suggest like everybody else to do Kaplan. The advantage of it is not for the content - they teach you how to look at each question, I took my NCLEX today for the first time - and I can honestly say the NCLEX q's were so similar to the Kaplan q's. Also they give you diagnostic and readiness test to see where you are. It gives you insight of what you need to study and focus on. Initially I was really weak with management of care - I worked on it for a week and studied nothing but management of care and by the time I took my readiness test I understood the concept etc. Needless to say I got tons of management of care q's on my NCLEX. Also I think it's better to stick to 2 materials, either do kaplan and saunders which worked great for me because Saunders gave me the rationales and Kaplan kept me focused on the material that's mostly tested. I've learned in nursing school, it's always good to have another source aside from what you have. It gives you more insight. I hope this doesn't discourage you, keep going!? :)
