Failed By One point

Hi everyone, I am so bummed. I have been crying every hour because I did not get the expected percentage to pass a nursing course. I was one question away from getting the passing percent. I have spoke to the dean and to my professor and they say I can no longer continue. I travelled 4,000 miles to this school and have no want in being kicked out. What can I do? It is an ABSN....I have no other option

How can I petition this??

You can't. Or, in reality, you already did, and failed. Pack it up and move on. That is the harsh reality of your situation. They have to draw the line somewhere and you missed the cut. Next time, make certain you are so far above the cut going into the final course efforts, that this is unlikely to happen again. Best wishes.

Agreed with coliotterr3. Sometimes nothing can be done. All you can do is look forward and try again! Never give up.

Like they always say, just because you hit a bump in the road doesn't mean it's completely over. Especially if you want it enough!

Unfortunately, you didn't get the desired response from your instructor and dean, which likely means you have no other recourse. Nursing school is challenging, and ABSNs are not for everyone. You might consider checking your student handbook to see if there are other actions you can take.

This is probably not what you want to hear, but you did not fail the course from missing one test question too many. You failed the course from a series of low grades that put you in the position to need to get one more question right. I don't say that to be discouraging but to point out that this outcome/disappointment can't accurately be blamed on one test.

I wish you the best going forward. This may be a bump, or a mountain, in the road, but it doesn't have to be the end of your nursing journey.

I feel for the OP. Coming that close would be very discouraging.

But general question: How come everyone who fails out of program only needed one more point? No one ever comes on and said, "well, I really crapped the bed in this class. I would have had to make 110 on the final to pass."

So I tried nursing school right out of high school and I was not ready. I got too caught up in the fun of college and didn’t focus like I should have. I also failed by one point. I took a semester off and nannied. It gave me time to regroup and encouragement myself and get ready to kill it. Then I went to a new school and buckled down with new strategies and everything went better than I even imagined ( I ended up tutoring students) you have to just start over and let it go. It’s so disappointing and it sucks. I even had the dean say to me, “ you will never be a nurse” and you know what I’ve been a nurse for four years and am flipping killing it. So stick it to them and show them what you’ve got. U can do it, is u want it bad enough.

I am really sorry. But I am also surprised - were you told you were kicked out of school completely? In my ABSN program, the school wanted us to graduate. There were some students who failed a class and they had to wait 6 months to a year to retake that class and continue with the school, and they did graduate. Please ask them if you can do that.

How far into the program were you? is there a remote possibility you can retake the class? could you apply elsewhere? Is community college an option- it's spread out over two years as opposed to the ABSN that is usually one year. Not to say that a community college is easier but I can only imagine what it's like to be in a one year RN program.

Does your school not allow one retake of a class?
