I am starting the Nursing program Sept. 5th and I just bought the books that I need. WOW!! are they expensive... Plus I need 6 books for one class. I am sure this is normal but I am in a little shock right now!! Will this be the case for the next three years? Any advice will be helpful... Thanks:o

6 *required* books for one class?? Wow. Most of my classes only have one or two required books and a few optional (but highly recommended) books. I haven't bought many optional books and by buying used on amazon, ebay, and half.com I have managed to get all required books for under $300 per semester.
Good luck with school!!

If you're lucky, many will be used throughout the entire nursing program. Especially if any of those are reference book (drug books, diagnostic/lab books, care plan books). I'm happy that I don't have to buy any books for my 4th and final semester this fall! Woohoo!

That is true, alot of them I'm sure I will be using for the next three years, and hopefully next terms books shouldn't cost me as much.
Still sucks though!

Mine were between 8-900 bucks for mine. I'm not positive of the total since I bought a few at a time. We needed 15 books for fundamentals. I am pretty sure those are for both 1st and 2nd semesters. Most of the reference books will be for both years.
I bought most of mine online too so they were cheaper. Check out some of the used textbook sites like half.com

The cost for all books and supplies for my 12 month LPN program is $1190. I went to the bookstore and looked at most of them. $65-$110 for a lot of them. Ugh.

I was required to have 9 REQUIRED books for the nursing classes. this included a drug book and diagnostic manual and dictionary... And for the next 3 semesters after this one, I will only have to buy like 1 book per semster for nursing. So I guess its usually just the beginning of the program that kicks your wallets butt.

Yes, the books do add up. Fortunately, many of the books that you have to buy for your first semester (care plan books, drug guides, etc.) will be used throughout nursing school, so there is a bigger cost up front but less to buy later.
My first semester's books added up to about $700. Second semester we only had to spend $200. This is my third semester and the books added up to about $150, but a friend sold me her used ones (same edition) for $50 total. I'm told that our fourth semester we may have to buy one textbook, if any.

First semester definitely seemed to be the worst in terms of cost all the way around (books, uniforms, equipment, etc.). But I've been able to sell a few of my books on half.com after the term was over (only books I was absolutely sure I wouldn't need again). So I could use some of the money I got back towards new books. And I buy most of mine through the Amazon marketplace because it really saves a bundle.

I bought a book bundle( 8 books and paid a whopping 713.37) and I still have 4 books more to get. They did say that the first semester is the worst and then the amount goes down drastically next semester, but can I just say OUCH!!
