not enough students, class gets held back?!

We're at the end of 2nd semester. Last week, we had 28/45 students left. Last night, down to 21. After the final Tuesday, we may be down to 10. Our contract states if the class falls below 6, they have the right to hold us back until the next class catches up so we can join in. Has anyone experienced this? We could potentially be held idle for at least 3 months! I really don't think this is cool.:banghead:

I'm sorry to hear this. WOW! From 45 to (possibly 10)! Have they tried to find out why so many students are failing so quickly? I hope everything works out for your class.

wow so many people are failing. i wonder if it's the school/teachers. i thought the failing rate for nursing school is 50%.

well, just wanna say that it sux if you are held back even if you knew about the contract from the very beginning. good luck and i hope no more people fail so you continue on your program.

Could be the students just don't have the knowledge base needed and/or the study habits. Some lpn courses may not have as extensive pre-reqs and IMO all nursing courses (lpn, rn, bsn), need A&P 1 & 2, micro, critical thinking & pharm.

Let us know how it goes. I feel for you and your fellow AND former students.

Wow, that's an INSANE fail rate. There's something seriously wrong with the program if it does end up getting down under 10 from 45.

My program ended up with about 60% passing. Actually, it's a bit lower than that because the graduation number includes a couple of folks that washed out previously and rejoined us to finish up.

I'd wonder about the school. If they aren't expecting the pre-reqs that allow for success, that's their fault. If they aren't providing the teaching that allows for success, that's obviously their fault too. I'd be concerned about the reputation of the school-I mean, that kind of failing rate doesn't look good, and you want to be associated with a good school. It might be worth your while, since you must be exceptional (being you're one of the "survivors"), to finish at a different school! Sorry-it must be stressful to be experiencing what you are!

Wow - that's a really bad situation. What's going on with your school? I don't think so many people should be failing and/or dropping out. And then to hold you back as well.

We started with 40 and now down to 26 with a couple borderline students. Only 5 more weeks till the end of the 2nd semester. Whoo hooo!!

IMO, some of the failers didn't apply themselves. Others tried and tried and tried, but were obviously held back by ineffective teaching patterns clashing with individual learning styles.

Unfortunately, the students who withdrew are being picked up by the next class coming through. They have the same instructor. I have no problem with the instructor; I understand that tests come from more than just what is said in class. But if she says "study x y z," the test ends up being a b c. That is what is getting people, I think. They aren't studying everything. But I have learned that as long as it's in the book, it's fair game. Learn it.

We had a meeting with the director last night, and she didn't seem to think that there was anything wrong with the way things are going. (I agree with her to a point.) If so many people were failing, and needed extra help, the teacher wasn't available. She has a life outside of school, ya know. (her words)

Our class is the first nights/weekends session, I feel for the people coming in behind us. I don't think the school thought it out fully before implementing it's "great new program."

Wow ! Sorry To Hear That ....where Do You Go To School ...i Am Looking Into Going To An Lvn School In Dallas So If You Go There Maybe You Can Give Me Some Insight On How To Succeed
