me: okay.

person: well, what are we going to do about it?

me: nothing.

person: well, what if the child gets on the bus tomorrow and mom didn't take him to the doctor?

Had parent call and ask if we had anyone with symptoms of swine flu, told them no not to my knowledge. Parent says Well I guess I will bring little Suzy to school today, but she will be late.

All this because we have 3 school systems in my state shut down until Monday for 2 suspected cases.

The media is creating MASS HYSTERIA!

The kids all hope they will shut down, so they can drive to another state to go to the mall and watch a movie.

Now tell me does this make any sense?

So in agreement. Fort Worth, TX closed down (80,000 students) because of 1 confirmed case - closed for 10 days. What are all those working parents living paycheck to paycheck going to do if they have to miss a lot of work because of lack of childcare?????

I heard someone say that there is a big stockpile of tamiflu that they need to get rid of before it expires????Hmmmm.......this would be the way to do it!

DH is in administration at a small Christian college. What an uproar this has caused. They had a Pandemic policy in place w/i 24 hrs. Basically it says, we'll wait for the announcement to be made that this is for real then do what the officials tell us to do. He worked ATC to get this in place. Just for the few who panicked BC there is a case in KS and we are in IN.

Let's see. recommendations. Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough. throw away the tissue. wash your hands. cough into your elbow if no tissue. stay home if you're sick. Any new news here folks? I'm not afraid of the flu, just the reactions to it!

I agree this is getting out of hand. One of my kindgergardners have extreme enviromental allergies so she puts a scarf around her nose and mouth when walking home. One of the teachers saw her with her mouth/nose covered and came rushing in the HR asking me if she had Swine flu.

I was irked, but I also know they can't help themselves.

I had to put my foot down yesterday. Both lines of my phone were ringing non-stop and my clinic was full of staff wanting personal medical info on certain students. 1 school in my district closed down so that sent everybody in an absolute frenzy.

My principal sent out an e-mail written by me saying that we would keep everyone in the loop if we had a suspected or confirmed case - but no student names or assessment info would be released. He stated that I would send a daily e-mail and I was not to be bothered unnecessarily.

Today- it is eerily quiet. I have only seen 1 student (a CPS case) but, I am still catching up from yesterday!
