Educate, educate, EDUCATE!

Do any of y'all do any kind of summer education for your kiddos? I've considered going to some of the classes in my school to educate the kids on s/s of heat exhaustion, the importance of staying hydrated, minor first aid for scrapes, etc. etc. before school lets out. If you do, what all do you cover in your education?

I don't do any of that stuff.

This made me laugh, I don't know why.

OP, what about a newsletter?

A newsletter would be a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks Farawyn!

I teach sex ed during the school year. Really, that might be the best summer education for the MS and HS kids with all that free time... :cheeky:

I did a newsletter at my last school. In the spring I would do one about spring sports and sprains/strains, one about sun exposure, and another about bug bites/stings.

Ha! When I was a nurse mom and not a school nurse I went to my daughter's 3rd grade class to teach summer safety.

I brought summer fun stuff like water bottles and floats for everyone (from the dollar store) and taught about sunscreen, water safety, and that type of stuff. When I was talking about pool safety a little girl chimed in and told a story about a boy who pushed her in the pool once. Another boy piped up and said, "If that happened to me you know what I would've done? Kicked him right in the nuts!"

Greatest teaching moment of my life.
