The best and only advice that I can give is that you call the number on the front of the packet if anything is at all unclear. They will try to help you, they may not be able to answer a question (as the question may give away an answer), but they are very nice about it. I do not think that I would have passed this had I not called the number.
In another vein, although we are not given feedback (just a pass/fail score) it is generally the consensus among the takers that they over-thought the exam. It is a pretty easy assessment, I have never heard of anyone failing it, but it is also pretty open-ended and I think that scares a lot of people.

don't over-think it...read it, slap down some answers and put it back in the mail....okay, maybe not quite like that, but you get the picture ! i fretted over that thing for days when it finally dawned on me that there was more than one right answer--so as long as i used my nursing process, i should be fine. and like was said before, i haven't heard of anyone ever failing the fcca. just basic, beginner rn. good luck!!

I just finished my FCCA not even 2 weeks ago. I think I put too much info in my packet, but it was the only way I felt good about sending it out. My advice is if you don't have a nursing diagnosis book, sit in barnes and noble and do your paper in there. I looked at several books while I did my packet, mostly while sitting in B&N. I had all the resources I needed. I was not putting out anymore money on another nursing book. I have too many as it is.
I was a complete mess doing this packet and I have to say Vegastar helped me through this, just by telling me to keep my cool. Best of luck.. You will be fine.

I am confused, is this test administered via computer or paper and pen? I am 3 tests away from eligibility.

Still on paper.
I guess that they have been threatening to move this from paper to computer (at a Pearson testing center, you have to go three times) for quite some time. Everyone rushes to get the FCCA done as it is about to "convert" at any time! Go, go, go!
One friend of mine cancelled her vacation to get the FCCA done before it switched over, just to find a little later that they have been threatening to switch it over since 2008 (or something like that!)

Here's what their website says:
Three computer-delivered simulated clinical assessments
will provide a mechanism for students to demonstrate
competencies related to the use of the nursing process:
(#496) Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment:
Head-to-toe Assessment and Nursing Process
(#497) Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment:
Managing Multiple Patients
(#498) Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment:
Participating in Intra/Interdisciplinary Health Care
Teams
The three competency areas will focus on completion of a
head-to-toe physical assessment resulting in the design of a
nursing plan of care, nursing care management of multiple
patients, and participation in intra/interdisciplinary health
care team conferences and patient care. These assess-
ments are designed to be taken upon completion of the
EIGHT nursing theory examinations and prior to the Clinical
Performance in Nursing Examination (CPNE®). You will have
a total of two hours to complete each of the three Focused
Clinical Competencies Assessments. Each two-hour time
frame includes a 10-minute tutorial and a 5-minute survey.
There will be no review option provided at the end of the
assessments.
After completing each assessment, you will receive
information that your grade report will be mailed to you
by Excelsior College within 45 days from the last day of
the testing window. Your grade will be reported as Pass
or Fail.
I believe that this test is still done on paper.
I have no idea how many questions, how it's worded, or anything; I won't be able to take it until after I pass HD3 in 3 weeks.
You must complete all of the nursing theory exams to be eligible for it. Then I believe they contact you to find out when is a good time to send it in and then you have 10 days to get it back to them.
Hope this helps.
