Earplugs during NCLEX?

Hey all,

I know this may seem like a silly question that isn't that vital to taking NCLEX, but I'm curious to know how people feel about using the earplugs. Our Kaplan instructor told us definitely to take them and that people often wish they had. However, I've been doing my practice questions with them and they're just way too annoying for me!

Any thoughts/opinions on the matter?

Thanks!

I'm definitely bringing earplugs. While I can't stand my ears blocked at home, I'm used to the noises around here. However, I get tense in environments where people are struggling to be quiet. I find it impossible to study at libraries, for example. :)

The Pearson center I tested at provides earphones at each computer. They don't let you bring your own. The earphones are the big type that fit over your entire ear. I didn't use them, the place was really quite anyways!

I used the ear plugs AND the headphones. There was construction being done on the building the day I tested and although the noise wasn't horrible, it was a minor distraction.

Thanks guys! I knew you couldn't bring your own but I bought some to practice with, just trying to get comfortable (which I didn't!)

It's good to know they weren't the ones that go in your ears- those are the ones I have that I can't stand! So maybe the over the ear ones will be better!

Oh geez construction! I would die! I'm sorry- that's such a bad idea on their part!

When are you taking NCLEX? I just passed mine on Tuesday!! Good luck!!

I used the headphones and found them to be really helpful! I recommend it!

Congrats on passing! :)

I haven't gotten my ATT yet :/ I graduated in May and our school had a Kaplan course for us last week so I've started studying on a 5-6 week plan in anticipation of taking it in that time frame!

The center where I tested provided ear plugs and the computer had headphones for part of the test. I used the headphones at first but switched to the earplugs due to construction and road noise.

My testing area was also quite quiet. I found the earmuffs very helpful for shutting out the noise of people arriving and leaving for the test.

The center I tested at provided the big over the ear headphones too. I used them because I wanted complete silence with no distractions from someone coughing, sneezing, or moving around in their chairs. I needed complete concentration for that test. The headphones worked great, the only things I heard were the thoughts in my head as I pondered the questions.

I remember there being ear plugs there when i took the nclex over a decade ago. i am sure i didn't use them, as the noise of my own head (breathing, swallowing all amplified by ear plugs)in a quiet room would have been more distracting than any ambient room noise.

I will definitely take advantage of earplugs or headphones that are provided. Small noises around me are very distracting. I use earplugs while in the library and I get a lot more done than without them.
