Also Nurses can be Emergency Medical Technician(EMT)?? And does anybody know about good universities to transfer which have LVN-BSN program or accept credits from LVN program to get BSN?? Any info will be appreciated. Thank you.:)

Nurses can be EMT's, but they have to go to school for both. After a person has both an EMT card and a nursing license they can usually take a RN to paramedic course which is a condensed version of the regular medic course that is specifically geared towards nurses. I believe you have to be a critical care nurse to do that though. I am hopefully going to be starting an online EMT course sometime in the near future!
Thank you for your reply. I have a few more questions. Nurse who doesn't have EMT license can't work as EMT or critical care facility/departmant in hospital? Nurse and EMT is completely different?? and What's community health workers??They are different from nurse? Also do you know a person who usually work at clinic and tell/advice us about result of HIV/STD test. Are they nurse?? Nurse can get that kind of job?? Any info will be appreciated.

The job you describe as community health worker depends on the specific job duties and requirements for the job being discussed. Some employers will use different terminology in titles to describe different jobs that may be similar or totally different in scope of duties and responsibilities. Also, people can be hired into positions with differing levels of expertise. You would have to present the job announcement here for anybody to give you an accurate description of the job. There is such a position as community health nurse. The person who fills this position usually has at least a BSN and Public Health Nurse certificate. Many times they work in community clinics and government agencies. Some of their primary duties may include education programs, public outreach programs, clinic duties in public health clinics.
Another type of community health worker possibly being described is the direct care worker who works with developmentally disabled, mentally ill, or at risk youth, in group home settings in the community. These people may not be required to have any skill level beyond that of certified nursing assistant or home health aide. Again, you would have to present the job announcement in order to get any more specific.
Clinics also employ medical assistants as well as nurses depending upon the duties and the availability of employees at certain pay levels. That is why you may go to a clinic and be seen by an RN, a physician's assistant, or a medical assistant, at any given visit. Each has their own duties within that particular clinic setting. Hope this helps some.
You can find out a lot about the different job categories by reading many of the threads on this board. Look into the archives for the different forums.
Hope this helps some.

An EMT and a nurse are completely different. An EMT is a 3 month course and they are trained specifically in prehospital care... basically their goal is to get them to the hospital alive. A nurse has at least a 2 year degree and their training covers a wide variety of things... mainly hospital settings. Nurses can work just about anywhere they want in the hospital, but you cannot work as an EMT unless you take the course.
Thank you for your reply. Does EMT do special thing which nurse doesn't do?? Any info will be appreciated. thank you.

I'm a little confused here. You've been posting since Fall of 2006 about being a nurse already (LVN licensed in the States) and about getting into a transfer program either here or in Canada (LVN-BSN), as well as these same type of questions about clinic work and various job descriptions for nursing and non-nursing jobs. You've gotten LOTS of good answers on those questions....but here you are saying you're a future nurse, and still asking what seems to be the same questions.
What information have you gotten that is still leaving you wondering the same things?
Basic EMTs can't do a whole lot... like they can't push meds, start IVs, etc. They are just trained in prehospital care.

Um....excuse me........medics are trained to do those things and it is still pre-hospital care.
EMT's learn how to assist the medic.

Thats why I said "Basic EMT's"... Paramedics can do a lot... they can do different things such as intubate, etc. that nurses can't do (in my hospital at least). Around here, EMTs are not just trained to assist the medic, they have to know how to do certain things because they don't always have a medic with them. A lot of the departments around here are volunteer, so its whoever they can get to go. If the patient is bad, they will call for another department, or an ambulance service with a medic to come.
