Perhaps you should consider not limiting yourself to hospital work? I work in a hospital PT, but FT at an office nursing job. There may be a great opportunity outside of hospital nursing right in your own little burg :).

Specializes in ER.

I think our hospital is tops, but heck, I'm biased. I see some of the ratios on the board and think I'd never make it in the real world. :)

Boy, me too. We are very lucky here. Rarely get to the 6:1 ratio and we always have two RNs and one or two CNA's for at the most 12 patients.

Rural nursing has its benefits . . .

Our floor is like a nursing home at times. Many, many old confused patients. It gets frustrating when you have 7 patients and you take your eye off the confused one and they get into trouble. Had one last night that managed to fall even with a 1:1 sitter with him. Called the doc to get a posey vest restraint and was told no because that would keep him from getting placed in a home. She did agree to give him 2 doses of Zyprexa through the night which didn't touch the guy. Fun night, NOT! I've pretty much had it with the whole floor stuff. It's a nice place to visit but I don't want to stay.

If you want to post hospitals gotta keep inquiries to PM, as there is no recruiting on the boards.

I was born in Martinsville Va! Have lots of Family there. From what I remember, you do need to relocate! not that there is anything wrong with Martinsville, I grew up there as a child but not very big and from what I here from family, lots of layoffs and stuff (not hospitals)

and its not in a hospital...its in a clinic....I have worked a very short time in a hospital and was not happy with the environment....in the clinic I work, I feel like we are a family...the only problem I have is the fact I can't take any time off without taking PTO...in other words, we can not take unpaid leave....(except a whole whopping 2 days a year). But the rest of the benefits, pay, doctors, coworkers, patients are excellent....
