Do we have to know everything???

Hi,

I am almost close to my test date. I am reading the content and practicing lot of questions. But in some questions,i can see some unknown medicines or disesases. I am very much scared, what if we get questions like this in real test? Do we have to aware of all the subject? How is it possible? Please advise me something............. How to deal with this situation?????

Thanks in advance......

I will be the first to tell you-you will find such questions on the NCLEX.

When you encounter those questions, remember WHAT the question is asking you...is it to intervene? Teach? Assess? Prioritize? Remember to focus on choosing the BEST answer according to the question; when studying, if the questions are about medicines or subject that is not familiar; examine the rationale whether or not you go the question right, and go from there.

Best Wishes!

Would love to know the same thing because it's impossible to know it all

Nclex is not all application questions, you have to use strategy. Think of what the question is asking you, is it priority? ABC? Maslows? Look at each answer and see which answers you think you can eliminate and try your best to pick the best answer. I had to do that on a few NCLEX questions that I had no idea about.

what if nclex asks about side effects of a med u never heard? Or asks about symptoms of a disease you've never heard of?

Then usually you can throw out one or two answers bc they will seem silly. The other two answers you just have to make an educated guess. You won't know everything. It's that simple. But I had very few questions like this.

Memorization questions like this are the lowest level of learning. So hopefully you won't be getting many of these.

Thank you guys........have to win in the battle field.

For meds, learn the endings of the generic names. It will clue you in on what the medication is for...like it may say "nursapril" but you will know it is an ACE by the ending (-pril). Then you can look at answers relating to blood pressure/non-productive cough/etc. I saw several I had not heard of but was clued in on what it was for by looking at the generic endings.

Good luck!

Thanks!!!! Very helpful

Thanks!!! I'm actually looking for the meds I'm the Saunders book, I hope it's set up that way with the ending and the meanings, if not do you know where I can find that?

First off, it's impossible to know everything so don't overwhelm yourself with those thoughts if you can. IMO you only really need an outline. Tiny details won't really help you during NCLEX. You just have to know your basics and work from there.

That is right its impossible to know everything because they know that were taking the test for entry level nurse.

What helped me was Pharm Phlash cards; there are also flash cards made by an AN member as well.
