Did your nursing program require letters of recommendation?

Or a form or any sort? I'm racking my brain to find 3 people for some of these programs. Don't know if I want to just not apply or what:o. Seems like most schools do require a couple, right?

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Yes, mine wanted 3. I asked my then-current boss, a doctor friend and a nurse I knew. They were great, didn't mind supporting me at all. Even when they had to do it several times (I applied to 5 programs before I was accepted.)

Mine required three.

Mine didn't require any. But my scholarships did.

Do they give you any guidance on who they'd like you to have as a reference? I'd likely make at least one of them your A&P Prof.

I haven't taken A&P yet.. But yeah, that would still only be one if I do get to know the professor:o

Did your school require a higher GPA(3.5 or so?) to offset not requiring any references?

I don't know if they required a higher GPA or not...but most of us had a 4.0 or pretty darn close. We did have to write a proctored essay though.

The other two references are going to depend on you and what you tend to do. Do you volunteer in the community, are you active in church, do you work, all these places could have someone who you could ask to write a reference for you.

I really don't have anybody:(

I'm assuming going back to a high school teacher would not look good....haha

You've never had a job?

My school did not require any LORs and the application was extremely short (we're talking one page here).

Specializes in being a Credible Source.

Mine also required 3.

The kinds of people who would be appropriate would include:

+ Anybody you've ever worked for

+ Anybody who knows you well and works in the healthcare field

+ College professors or, if you're not far out of HS, then even HS teachers

+ Anybody who can discuss your work ethic and personal character

You made a comment which I would like to highlight for you and anybody else... Regarding getting to know your teachers, you should absolutely get to know them. They can be invaluable references and contacts throughout your life.

This is funny .. I remember my letters of recommendation came from my ...

Physics Teacher

Math Teacher

Graphics Art Teacher

I really didn't think much of it at the time.

You've never had a job?

Just a few part-time jobs, but no real supervisor that I would feel comfortable getting a reference written by.
