I have been signed for EC for almost a year now and have only the info tech(?) class and I am taking a local CC prereq now, my fear is; PA BON will not except EC RN program before I am done, so I dragging my feet on taking any nursing classes through EC. Does anyone feel the same way?. I really need to do this, because I love my job and trad. sch. is not an option, at least not for nursing courses...would love some feedback....
Thanks,

Dragging your feet is only going t oget you farther behind and increase your cost. What makesouthink that PA isn't going to recognize EC?

Dragging your feet also puts you in a biger risk. You could have finished all your exams this past year. Jump in it and get motivated!

When you say PA BON you mean the PA board of Nursing right? They DO accept EC.
thanks for the replys..yes I know now they accept but i am afraid before I get a chance to finish they may enact something not to accept EC....just listening to what some nurses are saying out there..

I feel the same way. I also live in PA near the MD/PA line. MD doesn't accept Excelsior. I am sorta kinda dragging my feet and my hubby is getting tired of it. I need my microbiology and A&P for prereqs and then my nursing classes. I was trying to get info on the York College of PA (one hour and half away from me) LPN to BSN program which has satellite classes at my local hospital and allows clep and excelsior credits but no one is getting back to me with that. **** poor help leads me to believe they don't want my business. I also live right near a Penn State campus that sent me info on their LPN advancement program to get a ASN. I would need about a year of clinicals and 4 nursing classes after getting credit for 2 and testing out of 2. I would also need A&P with lab and microbiology with lab. Penn State doesn't advertise their LPN advancement and i only learned about it after someone had told me on this site. I really really like Excelsior's program but i really really want my RN license to be accepted everywhere if i decide to move. I don't mind the states that require clinical hours like Kansas but i hate the fact that some states have banned it all together. If PA was not to accept it now we would still be accepted since we are already in the program. If i do go with Excelsior then i am going to make sure i am done by next november and endorse my license into Virginia before they shut out excelsior grads. I have not heard anything about the PA BON shutting out Excelsior grads, i just worry about getting a job if i move. I live near a HACC campus also but they require ALL PREREQS to be done before the nursing classes/clinicals and then you have to apply for clinicals. They go by a point system and have a huge waiting list for clinicals.
Honestly, with my three year old and the cost of daycare when going to traditional classes and clinicals Excelsior is the way to go for me. I am just scared as well.

I too, would like to be able to go back to work someday with a BSN instead of an AAS.
I believe Florida stopped accepting Regent's when I still lived there- they grandfathered the nurses who already worked, but would not accept any further. That was about 1996.I don't know if they banned all online.
Because I am partially disabled, an online would help me.
There are others out there- has anybody gone elsewhere?
Are there any online rn refresher?

i really really like excelsior's program but i really really want my rn license to be accepted everywhere if i decide to move.
** redheadmommy05- you are aware that with excelsior this is not possible.
i don't mind the states that require clinical hours like kansas but i hate the fact that some states have banned it all together
** redheadmonny05- there are recent posts on the board that students are having difficulty obtaining clinical sites for states with this requirement as excelsior doesn't assist with the process. you will have to select the site, have a contract agreement with the hospital, obtain insurance, workman's comp, etc. seems like a pain and unecessary cost incurred by you the student, not excelsior.
if pa was not to accept it now we would still be accepted since we are already in the program.
** redheadmommy05- this is simply not true. case in point, georgia not licensing excelsior graduates by endorsement or even with 500 hours of experience as an rn working in another state first then endorsing in. every state that has made a stand against excelsior has not made provisions for students who are currently enrolled to become licensed. there are/were no provisions made for the enrolled students or recent graduates in georgia.
i have not heard anything about the pa bon shutting out excelsior grads
**redheadmommy05- the students/graduates in georgia didn't hear anything in advance about gabon course of action until after (1 month) all was signed and done. just because you don't hear it or read about it on this board doesn't mean that it's not in progress or a possibility.
Obtaining a site is ISU, not Excelsior.....Florida does accept EC if you are an LPN......If you are not an LPN in FL, then you have to endorse in from another state but to say Fl doesn't accept EC grades is totally FALSE......Yes you may want to have your license available to you to work in every state, but are you going to be working in ALL the states in America?Think about that.
There are several states that require precepted clinicals for Excelsior nursing students prior to being able to obtain licensure in that particular state. A few of those states are Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky and Washington. Yes, it is up to the student to obtain a clinical site and contract with the hospital facility in order to complete the requirements and be deemed eligible for licensure. Excelsior does not help with the process and students are posting that they are having problems with getting this done.
I agree with you on the license thing.
