Wondering, if a resident is transferred each and every time in the past 7 days using a full body mechanical lift how would you code this?

4, 3. Full staff performance, 2 /c Hoyer and the resident.

:)Thanks so much for your prompt answer. This will help to validate my answer today to a restorative nurse who insisted that because this lady crossed her arms inside the lift sling during transfers that she should be coded an extensive assist of two.

Um, no. She provided no physical self-support.

Just because she crossed her arms did not mean she participated in transfers - she didn't move one ounce of her own weight from point A to B by crossing her arms. That's how I explain this when the aides question me with this. (I've even made them sit in a chair, put an empty one near them, tell them to cross their arms, think real hard...nope you didn't move even one little bit :uhoh3:)

Ok I have a question if someone can help me. A resident is able to be independent with electric w/c once in the w/c but needs to be hoyered to it. Once in the w/c he selfs propels throughout the facility with no supervision. So how is this coded???? Thanks for any help anyone can give...this is under debate at my facility.

LOCOMOTION ON UNIT - How resident moves between locations in his/her room and adjacent corridor on same floor. If in wheelchair, self-sufficiency once in chair.

LOCOMOTION OFF UNIT - How resident moves to and returns from off unit locations (e.g. areas set aside for dining, activities, or treatments). If facility has only one floor, how resident moves to and from distant areas on the floor. If in wheelchair, self-sufficiency once in chair.

It would be 0 and 0- unless they need some sort of prompts/cues or supervision with manuevering the device.

Hoyer in doesn't count- that is addressed under the transfer coding.

what about if resident only got out of bed once in a 7 day period with full mechanical lift and assist of 2? not a 4/3, not a 3/3, someone suggested 0/3? but it seems too strange...... thanks

"0/3" would be correct..... :)

I disagree, but let me make sure I undertood the question:

If a person gets out of bed with a mechanical lift(hoyer, for example) with 2 staff assisting... the person did nothing to assist with the transfer, the mechanical device did it, with 2 staff assisting the mechanical device for safety, etc.... the 4 -total dependence and 3-extensive assist.

Now, if the person got up and the mech device was a walker, transfer board, etc.. different story.. maybe a 3-3 or limited-2 1 staff?

edit.. ok, just looked at it again. don't see the 0/3 0/3 would be no set up, 2 staff assist. doesn't make sense to me......
