Day Planner

I just moved into a position where I will be splittinig my time between the unit (40 hrs) and Wound CLinic (40) hours. They recommended that I get a day planner to keep track of all the meetings, appointments and scheduling. I was looking at the small Franklin Covey compact planners, 41/4 by 63/4 size needed for refill. I like the size but did not see any refill pages at Staples or Walmart. So before I buy something does anyone have recommendations?

I would something I can put a small calculator in and that will fit into my bag. Any good, reasonable online sites? I am not having much luck finding any.

Thanks

If you're a computer person, look at a palm (aka pda). Less bulky than a dayplaner, can carry in your purse or pocket. You can spend anywhere from $100 on up, depending on what you want. They come with a built-in calculator. And, you can add and add and add programs. A place like Best Buy or maybe an Office Max (or Depot) usually have samples you can play with in the store.

I am not great on the computer but not terrible either, or they fairly user friendly?

Any old calendar works for me as long as I use it consistently and refer to it daily (or more often) to make sure I'm not missing anything. Call me old-fashioned ;) - I like my Far Side Desk Calendar. Paper, spiral bound, no special pocket for a calculator, but I could tuck one in my bag otherwise if needed.

I also make heavy use of the calendar feature in my Outlook email program for reminders.

I have seen Franklin Covey refills at Office Depot. I order my refills online.

good luck in your new job!

There are a number of PDA/Paper systems out there. I like my PDA for its portability etc. Franklin is also good simply because of its training programs and variety of formats. Cost is probably a wash between the two systems.

Outlook works very well as long as the computers you use are networked.

It takes a while to get used to them. Just getting use to look at them, where to look, etc. I personally can't live without mine. But, it did take a long while to get used to it.

I rotate at several different dialysis sites and have to keep track of meetings, etc. I couldn't live w/o my palm. Download it every night and update it - its soooo easy.

I used a small notebook size calander while I was in college and managing my family (4 kids). Used different colored highlighters for different things, each kid was assigned a color - they look like my kids puked skittles on my calander.

Have used a palm pilot (PDA) for 5 years now and could not live without it. I can dock it to my home computer and print out daily, weekly or monthly calanders. I have nick named it my Bible, can't leave home without it.

You can add programs to the PDAs like drug books, etc... That would be my recommendation.

Good luck with the new job.

Thanks for all the replies. I looked on line for refills but cannot find the size I need. I think I will check out Palms at Office Depot or Circuit City no Best Buy where I live.
