Dansko sizing

So I'm starting nursing school next month and need all white and appropriate shoes for school. Went and tried on a number of the recommended brands and settled on dansko XP pros but they didn't have all whites at the store. Found the best pricing I could online and ordered the size that fit best in store. New shoes arrive today and they are too snug, supposed to be a bit loose and my toes are pressed against the front and my heel touches the back. I know the guy at the store said they all fit a bit differently so I'm conflicted if I should exchange them for a larger size or just another pair in the current size? Both seem like a bit of a risk of ending up with too big or too small again.

Suggestions?

Better a bit too big than "just right" - they're supposed to be loose. What is your American sizing? I'm a 8.5-9 and I wear a 40.

9.5, I got a 40 which fit fine in the store with the black pair I tried on. Probably best to go with a 41.

9 1/2 I'd definitely go with a 41.

Thanks for your help.

They are indeed supposed to be loose so I don't think I would keep the ones you just received. I'd check the return policy before you proceed with your next order. Maybe you can try both. Ideally, you would want the pair to fit as the ones did in the store. Comfort is key...clinical hours tend to be long and hard on your feet! Good luck with your search!

If I recall, you should be able to comfortable fit your index finger between the back of the shoe and back of your foot. Definitely better to be looser rather than snug.

Noooo! This is a myth that got perpetuated a while back and is the reason so many people turn their ankles in this type of shoe. There should only be enough room for your heel to lift slightly when you walk without rubbing against the back. Any more than that and the shoe is too loose which will definitely impact comfort as well as safety.

My toes are pressed against the front so more space is needed. Free exchanges are available through the company I ordered from so that won't be a problem. Just need to fill out the form online and send these back. Just hope the larger size fits well enough.

Toes pressed against the front definitely mean they are too small. Because the shoes are primarily handmade even the company mentions that there are fit variances within the same size. While the shoes should not be extraordinarily loose they by no means should be tight.

Side note: the other clog brand, Sanita, tends to run very small especially in the instep. I have to go one complete size up or they cut the circulation off.

Yours sound too small. I would size up. I wear a 7.5 normally but wear a 38 in Danksos.
