Daith piercing with stethoscope?

Hi all!

I'm a first year nursing student. I've always wanted my daith (inner ear) pierced and I just recently heard there's a chance this piercing can help with migraines (which I suffer from). Before I go and get it, I was wondering if any of you have yours pierced and if it interfered with your stethoscope? I already have my tragus pierced and that isn't bother but I'm not sure how a new piercing in that location would cooperate.

Thanks!

There is no proof that a daith piercing will help with migraines. But, most schools have a policy about piercings. Check with your school but most schools will only allow one pair of stud earrings and that's it. Good luck.

My Tragus piercings interfered with getting my stethescope in enough to hear well.

In LVN school, I wasn't allowed to wear them. My holes basically closed! I had to have new earrings basically forced in to re-pierce them when school was over. It was bloody and not comfortable. [emoji29]

So when I started RN school, I researched about clear plastic place holders to keep my piercing holes open.

Fortunately, in my RN program, the director told me I could wear my Tragus piercings as long as the stud was tiny, along with small studs in my ear lobes.

The only problem I'm having is that the studs are so small, the diamond gets pulled into the hole and I feel like I'm creating more of a gauge hole! [emoji23]

PS: a different RN school director told me that my studs in my lobes are too large- they are not that big! So, some schools are super picky!

PPS: I googled daith piercings and they are pretty! [emoji3]

My takeaway from this is that schools have lots of differing policies regarding piercings!

Well, so that's what that part of the external ear is called. Learned something new today.

springchick1- I know there's no proof, but suffering from migraines I'm willing to try anything! Plus, I wanted it before that information came out. My clinical instructors allow one piercing per ear, anywhere on the ear as long as it is reasonable. A few people in my class have their rook pierced (right above) and our instructors do not care. Thanks!

This post gave me shivers. Truly, you do not mean the "inner ear." Please research inner/middle/outer ear locations and revise your thinking in terms of your desire to pierce your inner ear.

vintagemother- I got a very short post on my tragus with a flat back and it doesn't affect it at all, I'm lucky! When I first got my tragus done, those options weren't available so I think its fairly new! If you're still having trouble with your your steth/tragus I'd suggest going to a piercing shop and looking into it :) Also lucky for me my clinical instructors are very laid back about piercings. The handbook states one piercing per ear (in any part) but our instructors told us as long as there are no large hoops/dangling earrings we're fine! So I'll just have my tragus in one ear and daith in the other! I'm going to ask the piercer his/her opinion too on whether or not it'd interfere with a stethoscope. Hopefully all works out well!

Samnorthshore: I did end up switching to flat backs! They help a ton!!!!! Thanks!!!

But, yeah, I need a shorter post!!!! [emoji23]

When did you get your Tragus done? Mine are old...about 17 and 15 years respectively!

I think I want a VCH next! Lol!! Seriously though!! It won't interfere with my nursing work at all!!

I know it's not literally the inner ear, I figured that'd be obvious. No need to research. Sorry, the inner piece of cartilage. Better?

Ok this is not the inner ear since it is part of the external ear

sailornurse- The inner piece of cartilage. My apologies.

vintagemother- I got my tragus done originally 11 years ago! It closed up when I took it out for surgery a few years back, and it closed up. I got it done again over the summer and it healed up even better than the first time :)

Haha! I'm not sure I could handle a VCH!! :nailbiting: Good Luck if you do decide to go through with that!:sneaky:
