CU-Denver Nursing Program

Good for you! It is a little intimidating at first, but once you figure out what pre-reqs they want and what classes you need, it gets easier (except for the coursework! lol). The information you need is pretty well laid out on the nursing school sites, so doesn't take long to figure out.

UCHSC and Regis are the top two programs in the state and it's reflected in their competitiveness. They are both excellent nursing schools and either of them would be a good choice. You will be able to see how competitive they actually are by reading back a while on the CO board. Some people from last year posted their GPA's and experience when they got into UCHSC, so that might give you some additional insight.

I would suggest watching this section closely; admissions are opening soon for next years programs and you can glean a lot of information by just seeing what others say.

To compare them though as far as what they seek in their applicants.

UCHSC looks at:

1. Grades

2. Grades

3. 1 page "Essay" (3 assigned short answer questions)

Regis looks at:

1. Grades

2. Grades

3. Attitude

4. Life Experience

5. Essay (your choice of 4)

6. Community service and work experience (Resume and job history)

7. Recommendations

If you ask me, Regis's approach is much more sensible way to pick good potential nurses when acceptance rates are in the 5% range (for CU too). Looking at the whole applicant is a much better way to choose a nurse (isn't nursing holistic as well) vs the apparent CU method just looking at a GPA statistic with no differentiation as to whether it came from MIT or CSM vs Community College of Denver with an essay as a tie breaker.

WHen will CU mail out decision letters I have not heard a thing!
