Anybody get any C's in there undergrad coursework and get excepted. I'm getting a little nervous in a statistics course. If so, did you have to explain at your interview? tHANKS FOR ANY REPLIES!

I LOVE this phrase (I used it during my frosh and soph year of college!) but all kidding aside, I have been accepted to a school that didn't care if I got a C in biochemistry in my previous undergrad degree before my BSN...if you show academic improvement throughout your college years, they tend to look at that trend more than a C here or there (at least that is what I've heard!) I will be re-taking that chemistry class for another school, however, that will not accept a C....so....in this case it really does depend on the school and how you measure up to the other applicants....try your best now while still in college before heading out to the working world!

its an excuse I used and it can come back and bite you in the butt if you're looking for an advanced degree.
Stats is hard until you realize it's basic algebra cloaked in important sounding names. You'll do fine, don't sweat it.
Believe me, I know how this phrase can come back and bite you in the butt!! I had slacked during my first two years of undergrad thinking I would continue on my chosen career path (not nursing at the time) without heading for an advanced degree. Those grades stay with you and can haunt you forever (which is why re-taking isn't a bad idea for an increased chance at acceptance) To the op: you can conquer stats; study hard and keep your eye on the prize!

I had two undergrad C's. I interviewed at 3 schools and everyone of them asked about my C's. I don't think that they were asking in a judgmental manner. Rather, they were trying to see how I would respond under pressure. One of the schools actually asked me about my B's in a couple of science courses and didn't even mention my C's. All of that is over though. I am finally going to CRNA school at Samford U. Never give up. My best friend got in with a 2.8 GPA.

Thanks BigLum. I made C's in both my A&P classes as well as my microbiology class during school for my ADN degree. I am now nearing the end of my BSN degree with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, including A's in Chemistry and all math classes (even Stats!!). However, I have been worried about those C's from my past. I have been debating re-taking my a&p and micro classes, but I wonder if it's truly necessary. I will be applying to UAB and Samford this fall and would appreciate advice from anyone that would improve my chances of acceptance.
Thanks!!!

I had a few C's in undergrad. My under grad GPA was a 2.9. I had to take 6 or 7 grad classes to raise my GPA to a 3.01. It took me 2 or 3 extra years to get into grad school. I wouldn't be too worried about 1 class though. Just do well in everything else.

How is it possible to have a cumulative 4.0 with at least 3 C's in your courses?
I have a 3.86 with 144 hours of coursework and all A's except for 7 B's. So, when you say "cumulative" 4.0 I assume you are leaving out all the classes you took before your BSN program (which wouldn't really be a cumulative GPA)? Because otherwise, it is physically impossible to have a 4.0 unless you have NEVER made less than an A.

Cathy - that confused me too. I have a 4.0 nursing school GPA, same in my prereqs, but when I got my first BS I graduated with a 3.67. My cumulative is about a 3.8 right now, and it will obviously never be a 4.0. Do you just mean that you got all As in NS? If you did, you probably don't need to retake anything as long as your real cumulative GPA is high, but it seems like a lot of schools do ask you to explain Cs.

I attend Samford University. I applied at UAB and Samford, but chose Samford. I did not receive an interview at UAB the first time I applied and that was because of 2 Cs in undergraduate science courses. They were Anatomy and Physiology. I took those classes over again, made As, then got the interviews. I received interviews from all 5 schools I applied to after repeating the courses. From personal discussions with UABs program director, they say typically they do not consider applicants with Cs in prerequisite science or math courses. So, yes, retake them or you are likely not to be competitive and will waste valuable time putting off repeating the classes for a year while you wait and see if you get accepted. Just my recommendations.
I am simply going by the gpa provided by my school. I currently attend an online RN-BSN program where I have completed 156 credit hours of the 180 necessary for graduation. This institution has my transcripts from the my other schools, and when I look under my degree audit/gpa area of the website, it is stated that I have a cumulative GPA of 4.0. I suppose it wouldn't hurt if I contacted my academic advisor to ask if this is correct.
Thanks!!
