I just wanted to know whether the Uk credit scoring is transferable after immigrating to oz, or do you start from scratch.

If you are coming to the USA (not sure if you made a typo or not), yes, you start from scratch. American credit reporting agencies do not have access to foreign ones.

If you mean university credits - some will be transferrable to a maximum of about 50% of the course usually.

i must be talking a completely different language, because no one seems to be understanding me. I am talking about 'CREDIT SCORING' you know when you go to open a bank account that sort of thing. I want to know whether the Uk credit reporting agencys which are equifax and experian are used in australia. I have learnt on another website that you use a system called Baycorp. As a new resident in an australia do you get an social security number or anything like that?. If no one understands this, then it could be the way im saying it but i dont know how to simplify any more than this. Thanks in advance for all replies.

We have a different language here in some respects. We do not call it credit scoring but a credit rating. I am unsure if our main credit rating agencies can or would contact yours but that is not your main worry. First you have to apply for a visa and that has to be processed through DIMIA.

As for social security - although there are some reciprocal agreements with the UK in general you cannot get social security unless you immigrate and then it is not for a while as far as I am aware.

We do not have "SSNs" like the US does as a method of identification. We have Medicare cards, which is what you need to be a permanent resident to access public healthcare.

Credit ratings I believe need to be started again, but bring all your info from the UK anyhow. We do not have the same "credit score" system as the US either. If you can prove adequate support, you can get a credit card or loan.
