Good Grief... I was in a class today, and the instructor got a call from her Dad, who said he'd just come across something that said that the Texas Board was going to start testing all nurses for nicotine, because healthcare workers should know better and should be good examples to others. Something about there being some sort of 'punishment' involved. He was completely serious, and she is a smoker so you can imagine her reaction (though neither she nor the rest of us believed a word of it).
Of course I couldn't find a word of it on the internet.
Any other ridiculous rumors out there?

That may have come from a news story within the last week or so that a hospital was going to start penalizing employees with histories of smoking, obesity, HTN/DM, etc........things that could be prevented.......by raising their insurance premiums. There was a thread on here about this.

Last I checked, smoking was legal, and if there's any truth to this, there are some civil liberties issues here. Next thing you know, we'll be tested to "toxic relationships." God knows, bad marriages probably do more to ruin your health than anything else. Yes, it is ridiculous, isn't it? If there is any truth to it, remember you can always do one of those flushes available on the internet. Reminds me of a button my daughter wears, "Oh well, I wasn't using my civil liberties anyway."

The rumor that disturbes me is the one that they are going to start drafting nurses for military, RIGHT NOW. They act as if I am supposed to get upset by the news, me a 60 year old granny. There is a very, very remote possibility that could happen. Even if military did say it was about to a do a draft of medical personel, about 90% of us are too old or too sick or injured anyway.

How would they be able to determine if the nurse smokes or just exposed to second hand smoke?

Someone told my 9 y/o this at school, and he came home scared and crying, thinking they were going to come get me and put me on a plane to Iraq that night. Crazy people.
