CPNE doable?

Published

I work in a hospital at this time and I am just a bit concerned...I keep hearing that the CPNE is ever so hard! The staff can almost make you feel as if you will never pass it, but I want to know what each of you think out there. After serious study and dedication....pass or fail?

It is definitely passable if and only if you study and do what they want you to do, which is pretty basic stuff as far as nursing goes--the trick is really doing things by the book, which is the CPNE study guide you get when you are CPNE eligible. Admittedly, many great nurses do have to take it a second or even third time. It has nothing to do with nursing ability--it often has to do with the nervewracking nature of the test. Once in a while the clinical examiners and/or associates are PITAs, though, but they are mostly quite kind to the students.

However, dedicated studying will almost certainly ensure a pass, but it might not be the first time...it very well could be, though! If you work in a hospital, you probably have your skills down, so that really is a help. Plenty of people pass the CPNE with old (or no!) healthcare experience, but they pass because they know the CPNE study guide like their own name.

Good luck!

Well, I passed. The second time.

i'm still studying, i test on oct 23. I to worked in a hospital x13 yrs, but i was feeling real comfortable with this test, until someone here said to treat it like a test and do exactly the way they tell you to, i know i will be taking "care" of a patient, but not like i do at work, the patient has a "nurse" and technically it's not me, I will go in, do what is on my test for each patient, be as personable and caring as i can, without throwing up:chuckle, and get the heck out, to go to the next one, oh yeah, i believe xanax is also promoted to assist you:yeah:, good luck

The CPNE is very doable!! Just study the guide and memorize exactly how they want it done. Forget the way you would normally do things in your everyday practice and do all assessments the excelsior way. You don't have to go in there and impress anyone, take some xanax so you won't have to worry that you may sound like a bumbling idiot!

]I work at a test site so before my CPNE I saw lots fail which really scared me. However, I took an early cancellation date, did not attend any workshops and I passed first time. Trick is to memorize those critical elements and don't forget to wash your hands! Yes, the CPNE is doable, you just have to practice your skills anyhow/anyway you can and memorize those critical elements. Study the study guide like it is your Bible.:smokin:

I passed! So yeah, it's doable. :)

A good friend of mine at work passed the first time. She said she had to perform as a brand new graduate nurse, not as an LPN with 8 years experience.

It is definitely doable. just remember to do everything the EC way, study and practice, practice, practice. In the thick of it you are overwhelmed with nerves and it seems hard, in hindsight it was not so bad. Good luck

I AM A 3 TIME FAILURE AND YES I DID STUDY AND I KNEW MY CLINICAL ELEMENTS . . . PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU TESTED RECENTLY AND FEEL YOU HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF....

I think and I could be wrong but since I have been studing the cpne it is alot like when I was in a rn nursing program we had to show the same skills, if you did them wrong you got yelled at and failed. We had to do skills in the lab and when we went to clinical rotation, where we also had to do careplans.
