Covid Complications!

Published

America is the 6th, I think, most suicidal country in the world and it's the leading cause of deaths, I also think in America.

How is COVID going to affect those statistics re job losses.... possible homelessness from the losses, long term illnesses, loss of family and friends, self esteem, shame when non vaxxers realize the mistakes they're making and the people they might have influenced to make mistakes and so many other factors?

I think it's going to climb steeply and I wonder if the people who were supposed to be in charge and dropped the ball, will take any responsibility and the people who foolishly followed their advice will restrain their anger.

This is a country of mass shootings and I worry about the future of displaced anger!

And what about us nurses? PTSD? I'm pretty sure that it's going to be a factor going forward!

I think you're naive if you think that hardcore antivaxxers are going to feel shame for their misguided decisions.

It's been my personal experience that IF they have a change of heart, they then become a vocal advocate (using myself as a case study of 1).

It sort of reminds me of cigarette smokers and their denial for so long until they had to pay the price.

Remember how many healthcare workers were smoking? Then all the anger when they were compromised in so many ways.

And the similarities doesn't even end there. The tobacco companies deliberately muddied the waters except facebook and Google gives an even bigger platform which if they had then, even more people would have died from cigarettes. Now antivaxxers are following the same pattern.

From the World Population Review's Suicide Rate By Country 2021 page, the United States is not included in the top 10.  And, according to the CDC's Leading Causes of Death, intentional self-harm (suicide) was listed as the 10th most common cause of death in the United States for 2019, the most recent year I was able to find statistics for.

New International Report on Health Care: U.S. Suicide Rate Highest Among Wealthy Nations

Quote

The U.S. has the highest suicide rate of any wealthy nation. Suicides account for 14 deaths per 100,000 people in the U.S. This is double the suicide rate of the United Kingdom. Potential factors that contribute to the high U.S. suicide rate include a high burden of mental illness, a lack of mental health screening, inadequate investment in social services, and the inability of many people to pay for mental health treatment. In recent years, Americans have experienced an uptick in “deaths of despair,” which include suicides and deaths related to substance use and drug overdoses.

We spend more money on these issues than other countries but we have terrible outcomes.

They won't change unless they are negatively impacted by the actual disease. Quite a few begged for vaccines and intervention on their death beds only to be told "I am sorry there is nothing we can do for you". How sad and preventable.

I keep reading from some posters that they worked floors and had antibodies and other people saying they caught Covid so they believe that they are covered and do not need a vaccine.

Is my education limited, because I honestly don't understand the logic of either or what it has to do with getting a vaccine?

How will either prevent you catching Covid? Doesn't our biology classes cover the way viruses work?

Please correct me if I getting this wrong?
