after the course, what are the procedures?

Published

hello guys! i heared a lot different stories about procedures on how to work in US.

some say after local board i should take the CGFNS, TSE finally nclex?

some says CGFNS is not required bla bla

some says you cannot get visa screen without the CG..

some says it should be toefel ibt and not TSE

and so on...

im gettin confused everytime i talk to different people. i think many of you are now RNs and went thru these procedures so at least if you give me inputs i assume that you really went thru that.

by the way Ohio state is the place i want to go because many of my relatives are already there but non of them knows abot the procedure.

TIA:specs:

hello

There is plenty said on this subject. Check out the sticky in the international forum titled Primer to working in the US. You do not need to take local boards unless you want to work in the Phillipines but you do need to take it if you are going to a state which requires CGFNS exam (not many of them left now). You need to decide on where you want to live in the US and then follow requirements for that state BON for foreign trained nurse and you need to find a hospital willing to petition you for a GC. Visa screen is a requirement for immigration and obtained through CGFNS site

Have a good read especially the international forum

here's the link of OHIO'S BON

http://www.nursing.ohio.gov/

foreign educated nurses

http://www.nursing.ohio.gov/pdfs/Foreign_Educated_Nurses.pdf

they need:

1. CES (full education course by course report) by cgfns.

2. English proficiency - TSE

3. application for licensure

FAQ

http://www.nursing.ohio.gov/pdfs/nclex.pdf

*** im not sure if ETS is still offering TSE exams. maybe you should inquire the BON bout it...ask them if you need to take english exam and what exam is that (toefl ibt or ielts)..

if you have questions related to licensure in that state email them directly

[email protected]

if you'll apply in OHIO

** you dont have to take CGFNS exam. you just have to apply CES.

** you can apply for a visa screen certificate if you pass the NCLEX and/or CGFNS exam; and the english exam (toefl ibt or ielts)

* i suggest you read the stickies bout primer to working in the US.

here are some useful links..

http://www.cgfns.org/sections/programs/vs/

*you can take the local board exam (NLE) here if you want.. that's your choice. anyway, the immigration process takes time. so if you have a license here, you can practice your profession while waiting for your visa to US..

goodluck!

TSE is part of the TOEFL series. Ohio requires the CES, a credentials eval before they will permit you to sit for the NCLEX exam. You will need to apply for licensure by examination to Ohio and they will grant you permission to sit for the exam when you meet their requirements, not before.

Either the TOEFL series or the IELTS series is required for the VSC which is required for US immigration and being able to work in the US.

thanks suzanne, kathy and silver.

do you guys have any idea how long will it take for me to finish all the things i need to become a USRN? lets say all the exams that i will take are all take one.

TIA

time is hard to say, especially as at the moment there is retrogression in progress but look towards anything over 6 months to get everything together and not including time going through the immigration process. Look at 12 months+ before you move to the US and that is when things move smoothly

thanks anna! anna do you know when the retrogression will end?

No one knows exactly when it will eventually be lifted.

We expect to see some at least available by this summer, howver there is no idea as to when things will entirely return to normal. It will also be very dependent on the number of nurses from that region that have applied for the US and how many are already waiting. Do not know when Schedule A will return. Also seeing a few appts being set for US Embassy interview, but this also is very dependent on where the nurse was born.

hi guys.. as the day comes near to my graduation day i cant stop thinking about how long i would still have to wait to work abroad. assuming that i passed the nclex and there is no retrogression anymore how many years do i have to expect for me to go to US?

thanks
