Could someone please explain this to me..

Ok so I'm a little upset right now. Last semester I was placed on a waiting list for Mercy school of nursing...well when you are placed on their wait list you are automatically considered for the next semester.. so I've been waiting on my letter to see if I got in for the summer session and it says "We cannot accept your application at this time". Oh an that "I regret to inform you that your calculated admissions score fell below the standard set by the committee" so my application was good enough in September and now its below their standards? I'm really in a daze over this...I went from 33 on their waitlist to #9 for the spring of 2011. Ggggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are being compared against a moving rubric (the other applicants). This cycle there may have been a large amount of applicants that outranked you, thus the minimum req would have risen. This is why you made the cutoff last cycle but not this one.

Ok I have a 3.7 GPA

80% on the TEAS

I have taken all pre reqs except scoiology and gotten As in everything except one and it was a B(89)!

I graduated high school with Academic Scholars.

Please explain to me how that's below standard...and I would be more than happy to email you a copy of any of those things to prove what I'm saying is true.

This is the problem with waiting around on waiting lists the way I see it. There is always going to be a new crop of "perfect" applicants to shove one aside each term. This is why many people find a way to afford the expensive private programs that don't use waiting lists.

It's not that your scores aren't great, just that theirs are better. The schools get their pick, and since they are graded on their NCLEX pass rates they are going to pick the very best applicants. Someone with a 3.71 and an 80 on the teas looks better than you do on paper.

Sorry I'm driving and I don't know why it did that...

The bar was just raised. There will always be someone better than you out there. Harsh truth but truth none the less

Maybe it was just a clerical error. Why don't you call them and ask them to explain which of their criteria you are falling short on?

The person who has completed ALL of the pre-reqs, has better grades and a better TEAS score will be accepted before you.

The cut-off for this past semester at my school was 4.0 with all pre-reqs completed.

I would be soooooooooo frustrated. Don't give up. Can you take the TEAS again? It looks like that's probably what it is, 80 is really good, but they may be filling up their seats with scores over 80.

My school's admission standards have been skyrocketing over the last 5 years. Only the very high scoring people of the hundreds that apply make it in now. Like was said above, talk it over with someone at your school and see if they can recommend any way to increase your chances.

Good luck!
