As answered on another post - you are an assistant to the nurse. You are not a nurse and have no legal right to refer to yourself as a nurse. There are very specific laws stating you must have an LPN/LVN or RN license to refer to yourself as a nurse.

With that being said, a CNA is an invaluable part of the team. I have worked with some of the most fabulous CNA's I could have ever been so lucky to know. As a manager in LTC I learned long ago - if the CNA's are happy everyone is happy and if the CNA's ALL get mad about something - ain't no one gonna be happy. Love the CNA's but they are not nurses and not qualified to do my job.

No, CNAs are support staff that assist the nurse, but are definitely not nurses.

I agree with netglow. "Under no circumstances a CNA is not a nurse" is very poorly constructed. The answer to the question "is a CNA a nurse?" could just be "No." An LVN is a nurse... that's why it's called Licensed Vocational NURSE.

Nurses have licenses and practice under specific nurse practice acts. CNAs are certified nursing ASSISTANTS. They don't have licenses and they are not nurses. License and certification are not the same thing.

I said "You are not QUALIFIED to do my job" and you are not. That requires a college education as a practical nurse, ASN, BSN, etc and licensed in your state as a LPN/LVN or RN.

You can set your mind to it all you want but that does not give you the credentials to be a nurse.

With all due respect you are being quite stubborn on this point. This is the second thread you are in trying to state that CNAs are nurses and they LEGALLY are not nurses. Not sure what you are not understanding. Just because you want it to be so doesn't make it so.

LEGALLY, you can not do the job of an LPN/LVN or RN.
