Hi Everybody!

I am going to start Excelsior for LPN to RN. And the more I'm reading about the testing out, the more I'm getting confused as to which to test through who.

I know that I can test out of the gen eds prior to enrolling and saving on the annual fee. There is just so much info out there that its overwhelming.

I like to hear about "real" people's experiences that have been through this, and what works for them.

If anybody has suggestions/recommendations, I would appreciate them. I pretty much need to take EVERYTHING. I have put this off long enough and just want to get going.

Also, if you have suggestions on preparing for these, I will take those as well. I know I can buy books and study guides off ebay, but I'm looking for specifics that helped you.

Thank you for any and all info!!

Sherry

Hi. Check out this website. www.degreeinfo.com and go to the forum. It's a great website that has a lot of information about CLEP testing and distance learning. Go to the section on CLEPs and do a search for what you're looking for. They have everything you would ever need to know about CLEPs and personal experiences on most of the tests that are available. Good luck with this.

Check out this website on Cleo tests. CLEP Forum - CLEP Study - CLEP Testing - Study Guide and Strategies. Souch info on Cleo tests. I earned over 24 credits with Clep.

WOW...I think that's an even better site than what I mentioned.

Don't overlook UEXCEL, they are part of EC they don't many test, but they do offer practice exams and don't cost all that much.

stevefl, have you taken any of the UEXCEL exams? I need to complete my 6 humanities credits and I was wondering how their exams are compared to CLEP. I was planning on taking the Spanish language exam since I am not a big fan of literature. I am looking at the website content guides and the material seems more straightforward and simple than the CLEP study guide.

Look forward to hearing from you :-)

I started testing out on gen eds July 2009 and basically as well needed everything. However, within one year I had 30 credits. I would suggest that you make a plan. Plan out how you are going to accomplish this. Gen eds needed can be assessed by calling excelsior and inquiring about program and what general eds you will need to take. Thereafter, go to barnes and noble and purchase clep books, (i.e., sociology/psych/world religions, etc). I studied one a month and after the month period I tested out and passed all the first time. Book from Barnes and Noble $25.00, proctored test at college in your area is under 80.00 bucks equals.... 3/4 credits!!! Get going! Best wishes.

Beachnurse,

Yes I took UEXCELs English Comp for my ASN, for humanities I used CLEP. Both are very doable tests, one thing I like about UEXCEL is you do get a letter grade so it will show on your GPA CLEP doesn't just P/F. Now working on my BSN, EC approved 2 UXCEL tests for me, Psych and Statistics, I am doing this the same as I did all of my other tests. Download the study guide, read the recommended material, take the practice exam then take the exam.

Good luck and Merry Christmas

Tasha, I was told that the 6 credit foreign language exam was adequate for Humanities. Uexcel has Spanish offered and I think Clep also offers French and German. I am doing the AAS program.:-)
