Class of 2015

I know the feeling...Our application period is from May 1-31. We do not receive acceptance letters until around the 4th of July. Very anxious to find out if I was one of the 120 students that will be accepted.

Had my orientation today. So all our books are on our iPad the total cost of the ebooks are $735.69. It is so awesome, I don't have to carry any heavy books, just my iPad for everything :) Our 1st semester is in LTC. Our 2nd semester is in clinics, dr offices, schools and some psych. Then after that comes all the departments in the hospital. It was so surreal to see everything and meet everyone. I'm so excited for more. They are one supportive program. It's nice because our professors send us links, important stuff right to our pageburst.

That's what my program is using too. I got a Kindle Fire instead of an iPad, though. :)

My program has also said that we will be using iPads also. I'm so excited about the idea but also worried, I hope it will be easy to navigate the ebooks.

That sounds amazing! I've used ebooks for several classes & wasn't impressed because the page numbers didn't always correlate with the physical books, it seemed to take me longer to get where I needed to be compared to my peers. The program you are describing sounds awesome. Can't wait to hear how it works out. As for me - I'll be wheeling around my books until our college gets on track with technology ;-)

I do have a live scribe pen & that has been a lifesaver! If you're not familiar - this pen makes a electronic record of your hand-written notes linked to whatever audio (lectures) is going on at that time. I just download to my laptop or iPad & I have all my recorded lectures & notes in one place for easy review.

Hey there, classmate My son is 14 and I have a step-daughter who is 10. We've got kids close in age.

I haven't done the background check & the fingerprinting yet. I have to go to the Health Dept. to get my vaccine records straightened out since the military lost most of my records after Hurricane Andrew. According to the Health Dept., I have no records after 1971, which is complete BS. My mom sent me all the vaccine cards she had from when I was a kid. Hoping I don't have to get any more shots! My last Hep B vaccine is due in 2 weeks. Still need to get a titer for varicella, since I've had both chicken pox & the shingles.

My scrubs arrived on Saturday! I love seeing them hanging up, just waiting for August!!!

Check with your High School, they should have a copy of your shot record with your transcripts. That was how I got mine. I went to the local Health Dept. and they had a partial listing of my shots. Hope this helps

The good thing for the iPads at my college is if you get financial aid the iPad is free because it is included in the fees. So I'm stoked that I get a iPad but more stoked because I don't have to have paperback books. Even though the 735.69 is a lot up front, it is for all 4 semesters. I was kind of sad because I know more than half will end up dropping I don't want anyone too (I won't let myself fail!) We had 63 students (not all were ADN, some were LPN). Now I need to see where I can get money for uniforms. If I buy them in the next 2 weeks I get a 10% discount. We have to do Massachusetts clinical centralized placement program. (CCP) It's just on fire safety, universal precautions, needle sticks. We have to do that between Aug 1st-15th. I will be getting my 1st PPD on June 6th, but I have to have my 2nd one done after July 1st. We are required to get the flu shot Sep 15th. We will have our medical dosage test the 2nd week of classes. You have to get a 90% or better in 3 tries. They said no one has failed it in the past 3 years (thats encouraging).

Congrats to everyone. I also start an RN program in the fall for associates degree. It's interesting because I got A's in all my bio prerequisites, thinking naturally if I studied enough I could get A's in my other classes. But I got B's in my pre-req nursing classes like pharmacology (B-). Pharmacology was a bit of a challenge 1/2 way through the class until I understood the way they tested. So I'm a little nervous, but I have faith that I will be fine in the nursing classes in the program. Does anyone know if the classes are a lot harder than the pre-reqs we took like pharm or physio? Thanks

I wish I could. I went to high school in FL and my paper records were destroyed in Hurricane Andrew. I had to go through the county to get proof I actually graduated from high school! This was in the 80s, so the only thing they had on computer record was the fact I graduated and my final GPA. I have the same issue with my vaccination records. Everything is in the 70s & 80s before they kept computer records. It's so aggravating!!!

Can you get a titer done to check your antibodies? So that way whatever you don't have they will give you. I saw this on another place in this forum. Maybe inquire with your dr. and how to get that done if its at all possible. Hope that helps.
