Class of 2014

We start Ob/peds and psych so we have a ton of drug cards to write up, and other homework to do. It's insane! It's due the first day of school too. Blah

We have pharmacology homework to do over the summer, I've been taking it to work to do there. I have a lot of nurses I can ask for help if need lol.

This summer I'm working. I am also shadowing some nurses of my nights off to get some more hands on type experience. Oh gosh, last night at work I got to see the inner canula(sp?) from a trach being replaced, it was freaking awesome.

Our first clinical setting when we get back is at the facility I work in, I'm so excited.

Whoo hoo I'm proud to say that I will be a 2014 graduate as well. I'm starting my accelerated BSN in Sept!!! God is good!!

I start in August and will graduate in Dec. 2014. There will be a lot of material to learn and we will have many sleepless nights, but we CAN do it! God is good!!!

I will be graduating in May 2014. I could have also done w/o this summer break thing . I am so excited nervous anxious. I plan to volunteer for the upcoming graduating class to see what to expect for my classes pinning.I would have volunteered this semester but It would have made me to excited to soon This upcoming semester is MH/NC2/Peds

I hopefully graduate May 2014. I can't wait to get these last 2 semesters done. About to go into ob in August. I have been looking forward to that clinical site.

Finally!! My class :). I will be graduating May 2014, and I am to enter into my OB/Peds clinicals! I am so excited because I love children and hope it's a wonderful experience!!! In my program, this is usually the easiest semester to get through. Thankfully. First semester was brutal. Second was not so bad and I hear my last semester will be TOUGH. It's scary! I have been nsg research over the summer so my load in the fall won't be as much. Most of its hybrid, so it is not too bad! I haven't taken a single summer off since nursing school though. I will be taking some kind of trip when I graduate nursing school! FOR REAL!!!! I think we all deserve it lol. I have thought about going to graduate school big time. Most of my instructors say NPs are going to be needed a lot in the future. I want to get my DNP because I feel like that will be a requirement soon to have to have a doctorate. I live close to Alabama and thought about goin to South Alabama. They are a pretty reputable place and it's a 3 year program mostly online. I haven't decided If I want to wait one year before I apply though bc I need some nursing experience.. I feel like I cannot successfully be a DNP if I don't know how to be a good nurse. Good luck to y'all all!!!! So excited for all of us! Our grad day is coming!

Last semester I had a patient with guillan-barre and he had to get frequent suctioning through his newly-acquired trach. Witnessing it was enough to hope I never have to get suctioned, ever.

Do you think it might be helpful for ensuring a good foundation after you've finished adult classes?

I am not sure if the book gives you a good foundation. I think that is more of class gives you a good foundation but the book was very resourceful.

Oh yeah I agree. It is so much better when they are able to cough up the secretions on their own. And the inner cannula being changed also got rid of secretions it was just cool to see.

I also was able to observe a couple of dressing changes, I know not really that exciting but I was excited. I love working nights because I'm a night person, but also because I have time to see things being done that I wouldn't get the chance to see on days.

My favorite dressing change so far was a GSW to the arm. It completely destroyed his radius and ulna. They were going to amputate but decided not to because he managed to have some nerve function left. So they pinned him up basically. Man those x-rays were crazy! Anyway, the PA was doing the first post op dressing change. My whole clinical group was in there observing, somewhat like deer trapped in the headlights. (It was only our 3rd or 4th day.) The PA reached a point where he needed more hands, so I gloved up and dived in.

To be honest, I've felt a little underwhelmed by my clinical experiences so far, but when I've had opportunities to dive in, I've been trusted by my instructors and nursing staff/doctors/PAs/NPs to do so. I'm very thankful for that! The one thing I that I'm disappointed about is I haven't yet started any IVs or drawn labs. I hope I get the opportunity in OB in the fall. I ordered some veni kits to practice on hubs, but they sent me 18g and I haven't felt the urge to be that mean to him yet.

3rd semester down one more to go! Who else is with me? Congrats to all and I hope everyone enjoy their holidays no matter what your result was this semester (passed or not) we all deserve a restful relaxing holiday break to get back in action for our next step whatever that may be. For me that will be gathering all my strength to push brought to the end and triumph to graduation and passing the nclex.

I plan on relaxing from now to the new year and afterwards trying to prepare myself for next semester. We are doing per and emergency health nursing so I already got my book marked for peds to began reading on January 2nd 2014 to get a little head start as my professor advices us to do!

What are y'all plans? What are you going to be preparing for?

For me that will be gathering all my strength to push brought to the end and triumph to graduation and passing the nclex.

I'm so excited as well! Only one semester to go! This past semester was extremely hard because I had to repeat Med Surg and most of my fellow classmates and nursing buds graduated last week. But I'm moving past that and getting ready to graduate myself :)

I don't plan on doing much prep for the semester, maybe just a quick look through my past notes. We usually have to wait until the last minute for our reading assignments and new semester notes. I will start shopping for cheaper NCLEX books though and start getting ready for boards. My classmates and I plan on meeting once a week to study for it throughout the semester.

Class of 2014~! May 9th is our pining and we walk the 10th! So excited!!!
