Working in chemical dependency, or history of?
clarification: Any RN's here that work in CD?
I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I don't remember anyone saying they do.

if you mean a site for nurses in recovery, nurses-forum.com has an area. a few years ago, i asked allnurses to start a forum for nurses in recovery but they declined the idea. if you mean nurses who work in chemical dependency - yeah, we need that too.

I don't work in that area anymore but I used to. We call that area Alcohol and Drugs, not chemical dependency. I was a caseworker/counselor at Methadone Treatment Services with a client load of 60 IV drug addicts. Interesting work but very stressful and difficult at times.
I left after I failed to detect one of my clients was suicidal. He gassed himself in his mother's car and it wasn't until I went to the funeral that I realized he was a neighbor when I was growing up and his sister and I had been friends.
I came to the realization I had become hard and uncaring for not picking up his state of mind so I left that area altogether.
