Hi, All!

Just wanted to pop in, say hi, and see how everyone is doing.

Here in San Antonio, we started back on 24 Aug and started with face to face instruction with a limited number of students on 08 Sept.  Yesterday was rough, however I am blessed to be surrounded by (if not physically, at least by text and phone) fantastic co-worker school nurses!

Looking forward to the weekend!!

Hi!! Our district is back full force today. Since we are relying on parents to use the honor system to assess their child and take a temp....please pray for us that the usual goings on (the Tylenol wears off at noon) do not happen.

Adults were back in my District on Aug 31; "special populations" kids came back on Sept. 16. Today was the first day with Pre-K & K in the building as well, and right off the bat, had to send a kid home who had been symptomatic for 10 days. Mom had been told by the teacher not to send him to school today, but said he reaaaallllly wanted to come. Well, sorry. He still had a lot of nasal congestion and a junky cough. His first day of school will be next Monday at the earliest, once he has "quarantined" for 14 days with no symptoms at all for 24 hours. The kicker? Mom was home with the other 3 kids for remote learning still! So why send him in the first place?!

Was he tested?

I had my first confirmed positive today. Fun times.

@JenTheSchoolRN I encouraged mom to get him tested, regardless. I doubt she will. His 14 days since symptom start will be Friday, so assuming he's better, he'll be back on Monday.

I had another one today, Mom emailed the teacher that there was "Fever and a cough and congestion". When I called she back tracked and said no fever, no cough, just congestion. Still encouraged her to get tested since congestion is a major symptom in and of itself.

I don't think people get it, regarding testing and being safe. They just want their kids in school, period, end of sentence. They also seem to be ignoring the fact that these symptoms mimic other communicable diseases that they're used to.

I have a feeling once my school does go full hybrid (we are just in person with a small group of high need students), I will just have a spreadsheet marking students and date they went home, if tested, and if not, their various okay to return to school dates with the 14 day countdown...

Things are going a lot better than I anticipated (knock on wood). Have had one positive staff member and am in daily contact with our county health department. Thankfully parents at my school are super responsive and helpful -- no pushback with any kids I've had to send home with symptoms.

Same here.  Things are, dare I say it, going well.  I've sent a few home with very questionable symptoms (I would have made them tough it out last year) and none have been positive for Covid.  The kids and teachers are doing a great job with masks and hand sanitizing.  I am feeling pretty good and wishing we could get the rest of our kids back on campus.

So happy to hear you're having a good start to the school year! It's such a relief to see even the little ones wearing their masks properly and keeping their distance from each other.

Got a call late yesterday afternoon from the step-mom of the kid I sent home Monday; She was letting me know dad was on his way with the kiddo to his PCP and wanted to know exactly what they needed to ask for regarding COVID testing! I am floored! The other two that have stayed home due to concerning symptoms are also going to go get tested. I am feeling optimistic!! We'll just have to see what happens when we go hybrid....
