Chamberlian or UIC

Published

Debating which school to go to. In your opinion which school is better? I would be a transfer student. Which school looks better on a job application?

If graduated from Res where did you find a job?

I would like to have a back up if I don't get into the program I applied to now.

Thanks for any info, it's greatly appreciated!

UIC is a better school for sure!

I would not even consider Chamberlain. They are over priced & for profit schools are more like business than actual colleges... they just want your money. On a job application, I am sure a school like UIC is much more applaudable.

Thanks, that's what I felt in my gut. Have you guys ever heard of resurrection university?

Chamberlain isn't much more expensive than UIC...after you factor in all the costs. I'm going to be attending Chamberlain because it's close to my home and I can't commute very far. I know people that attend there and they all love it. I have a friend who graduate from there and she had no problem finding a job either. There is this assumption that because Chamberlain is associated with Devry that it's not a quality nursing school. I have been to the school and talked to staff members. The facilities are great too! Of course, UIC is an awesome school as well! But they have a limited amount of seats. Because Chamberlain is all nursing they can accept more people and they have 3 start dates too. I don't know why everyone talks crap about Chamberlain, it's a great school and I know people who have come out of there very successful.

UIC has a better reputation, although a visit to both schools would probably benefit you and help you decide. You might need to factor in living expenses, too, since UIC is in the city. May not be an issue for you... I looked into Resurrection but ultimately did not decide on them for various reasons. Go over to the States/IL board and search. I believe there are some threads about Resurrection there.

I understand you are defended your school choice. But for profit school have always been look at like this. I used to do hiring and when I saw devry or Keller grads I was a bit suspect as compared to other schools.

Probably because their primary concern is not the education of students, it's making money.

This would be true for those who work on the more "business" side of things...But I find it hard to believe for everyone at Chamberlain. After meeting staff and talking to my friends that go there, I think that the majority of the instructors there are high quality and actually care about their jobs. I'm totally aware that they are a for profit school...it's not like I don't get that. When I went to their open house they gave us an overview of the program. It's a very well thought out program and they have tailored the teaching style to accommodate the accelerated nature of the program as well. They also have an amazing advance sim-care lab. I can't speak for every Chamberlain campus, but the 2 located in the Chicago area (Addison for me) are really great schools that put out great nurses. I just like to give my input when I can about Chamberlain because I think it gets a bad rap sometimes because it's for-profit. Yes, we have all seen the 'I hate Chamberlain' posts here on AN. But I believe these are people who just couldn't keep up with the accelerated nature I the program.

I'm very serious about my education and where I'm going to attend nursing school. So it's kind of insulting when people say that the school I'm going to go to doesn't care about the education of their students. Though they are for-profit, the instructors at Chamberlain are still great - which matters most on the end! I could honestly care less about the representatives and Devry corporate people who are concerned with the money matters surrounding the school...Good instructors and good program directors matters most.

Just my input about my experience with Chamberlain! Not trying to stir up an argument here.

I know people from Chamberlain who have jobs/got offers at big hospitals in Chicago...Rush, Northwestern, Lurie Children's....Chamberlain puts out good nurses too!

I'm going to chamberlain in Houston in the fall. The price tag on tuition is just a bit more than some of the universities around town and actually a little less than another university I applied to. My sister in law is a nurse manager for a major hospital in the Houston med center and she encouraged me to go to chamberlain. She said chamberlain is growing, and becoming more known as a good school in our area.

Just like everything else seems to be, I think it depends on your area. Different areas feel differently about non-profit and for profit schools. For profit doesn't necessarily mean its not a good education. If you research chamberlain, and even DeVry you will find good things about the school. DeVry actually has a well known med school in.. Australia I believe? They are planning to open one in the US as well..

Can I ask why you did not decide on resurrection?

I took a tour of both schools, chamberlain does have an awesome stim lab, and as far as uic I wouldn't have to live down there, just commute. I just wanted an opinion on what nursing school would look better on my résumé for a job. Thank you all for the advice!!
