Certifications...

I didn't have any luck with searching the site, so here goes my question(s).

Did your employer pay for/help with becoming certified? Not basic BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc., but becoming certified in your specialty?

Do you get any financial gains with your certification?

I'm looking at getting my Med/Surg certification and was curious. My employer doesn't help financially with it and it won't boost my pay. I just want to do it for myself!

Employer paid for test and we get $2/hr cert pay increase.

My employer pays for the first attempt at a certification (pass or fail) AND a review course. Certs get you more $$ via the Clinical Ladder program. Mine will earn me (along with all other ladder requirements- including my MSN) an additional ~$5k/ year as a Level Five!

Every employer is different. Mine paid testing fees for both of my ANCC certs and I got a 2% increase for each cert earned.

The places where I've worked have reimbursed test fees if you pass. My current hospital, which has a clinical ladder structure, has a modest hourly increase for certifications ... no difference in pay at the other places I've worked.

My employer will cover the cost of the ANCC test. They're also trying organize study materials to be available at reduced/no cost.

We do get a small pay increase for being certified.

My employer ... nothing.

But they are talking about helping a few people get certified in the next year.

If you want it for YOU, get it!!!

(Mine reimbursed the test fee after verification of "pass" result, and pays an extra $1.25/hr.)
