CCSN Application points?

You can even take Micro AFTER getting into the program. If you are not done with a class with a final grade by the completion deadline (which is ANY class you are in during the fall semester), you don't get points for it. CCSN has never offered Micro during the summer. I highly recommend taking Dr. Pantle for micro.

Thanks Woogy, I did know that you could get in the program w/o it, just thought those few points might help. How many points did you have when you got in if you don't mind me asking? I will definitely look for Dr. Pantle I need someone good. Taking Aulner (hopefully) for 224..I had Mr. Hicks..whom I loved but he's not teaching during summer. So how is the program so far? Lot of people falling off? I heard some people flunk out or whatever reasons after so long and that scares me.

I don't quite remember, but I think I had 21 points. That was back when you could get points for volunteering, which I did.

The program is tough, but doable. You just have to keep up with the readings and live by the rule that every point counts. You can't slack.

This semester (3rd) is the best for me. I love maternal child and actually love going to clinicals. 2nd semester is BUSY! But that is also when things start to really make sense. My class has lost a lot of people, which is unusual. Sure, people quit or fail the med/calc tests (if they don't study), some people fail at the final. I have made it through with A's and one B (missed the A by 1/2 a point), so it's a matter of your study habits, test taking abilities (I have no fear of taking tests), your environment (family issues), and if you have to sacrifice studying for work. As long as you have a game plan and stick to it, you will do great. We are down to 69 students from 109. Everyone seems to be doing great this semester though. I haven't heard of anyone quitting or failing.

LOL, crap now I'm scared...I did take the Allied Health Math Class though! So hopefully that helps. I fear taking tests if I'm not ready, my enviroment is kinda crazy, I have a 2 yr old and a boyfriend that works 12 hrs a day..so it's hard to get some help. Guess i'll be looking in to daycare so I can have time to study...I have been trying to prolong daycare for awhile. Guess you can only do that for sooo long. Wow 40 students gone already? Whew! Well I will pray I can hang on. I've made it through A&P 1 & almost all of 2 it was cause of personal reasons I had to drop it..I know the drop rate of that class is pretty high. So hopefully when i reach the nursing program it won't be soo hard. Thanks for the info and keep up the good work..I will let you know...Wish it was around the corner..Take Care

Don't be scared!! That wasn't my intention. Also, like I said, my graduating class has lost an unusual amount of people. It usually is 2-5 people per semester. The med calc test is totally doable if you study. It's mostly memorization of conversions and the ability to use a calculator with simple math. You are allowed to use a calculator for the test, and you get more than one try if you don't pass.

Hi. I am trying to apply for the nursing program at CCSN for Spring '08. I was looking at their point system and I was wondering....we dont get points for having a bachelors degree anymore? Does anyone know? Thanks

No, for Spring 08 they no longer give extra points for degrees. Sucks for me cuz I too have a bachelors. When i asked the advisor why, she said that she didn't agree with it but she doesn't make the rules. She said that they told her they want it be on a more level playing field for everyone applying.

I already have a BA too. I decided to apply to Nevada State College, Touro, and U. of Southern Nevada. Here's the time it takes to complete the degree:

NSC - accelerated program (12 months), regular program (16 months as most classes are offered every semester including summer.

Touro - ELM (16 months to BSN, then another few semesters for Masters), BSN (16 months)

USN - BSN (18months)

The last two are a bit expensive. But when I sat down and figured out how much sooner I could start making a living as a nurse as opposed to program cost/living expenses as a student it turned out that it wasn't all that bad with the private colleges. NSC is my first choice because of time and cost (I really want into that acc. program), but if I don't get in there I wouldn't be opposed to going to one of the private ones. Why did you choose CCSN? Are you also applying elsehwere?

I am only applying to CCSN. Mainly it is because I don't have the chemistrys and don't want to spend the time taking them and because I have heard really positive feedback about the CCSN program. I have been told that they put out great nurses and make sure you are prepared to pass the NCLEX in order to get a job. I take all of my sciences at NSC though. I really like some of the teachers there. I will be taking my last pre-req this summer, Bio 224.
