CCRN exam

Published

How hard is it and any ideas on where I can get some practice test? This is the last piece of the puzzle for my application. I have taken the GRE and did really well on it (1340) but I am starting to stress that 1 month isnt enough time to prepare for the CCRN. I have the Laura Gasparis DVD's but I would like some actual practice test.

Thanks for all your help.

You can buy a book called Pass CCRN and it comes with a cd-rom or you can go to the same website that you signed up for exam on and purchase an online test for $50 (I think that was the cost).

The PassCCRN book is great. I found the little white ccrn review book of Gasparis's to be the most helpful, it's short concise and to the point.

The best way to prepare for CCRN exam is with a CD , do lots of practice tests on the computer. I studied a good 3 months. Good Luck:wink2:

All I used was the Laura Gasparis videos and passed easily.

I also used the AACN's book that just contained questions (like $40 on amazon) it has a cd on it with questions and then you can take 3 full length exams that times you. I used the gasparis and Pass CCRN books too, and passed really easily. Good luck!

I didn't like the Pass CCRN book but loved the cd rom it came with. I recently took my CCRN and GREs. I did awful on GREs, didn't study for that at all but was trying to just get it over with (not so smart). Now for the CCRN, I have been in ICU about a year and a half when I took it this summer. I studied for a day and a half, seriously. Now, I did that because I am an idiot who procrastinated. I did pass but do not recommend cramming. In those two days I watched the Laura DVDs twice and did tons of questions....I think my brain did smoke at one point.

Good luck and I'm sure you'll do great with one month to prepare.

I studied quite a bit for the exam and while i learned from everything i used, the only thing i would strongly recommend is the CD that comes with the Pass CCRN book.

It gives you practice in computer format which is key (unless you're planning on a pencil version) and except for interface differences the questions are almost exactly like (slightly harder than) the questions on the exam.

I did notice in the bookstore that at least two new titles are due for release this fall.

I think the prep time will partially relate to your experience and years of practice... I took it with just over a year of experience, and in my prep/review I was learning new things above and beyond what I'd gained in my bedside experience. I imagine many ICU nurses with 5 years or more experience could easily pass without studying at all.

I'm in the opposite situation... I passed the CCRN with a great score, but now I'm studying for (and dreading) the GRE.

If you have the time to study, I bet most ICU nurses with even the minimum 1 year could prepare and pass within a month.

Good luck! :D
